Go for mid/high IB + NV6, build an otherwise excellent but not overly silly machine. Suggest he pockets £600 for a parts refresh in a years time. (Go to whatever IB tops out at + the NV6 top end).

IB will be cheaper and Z77 motherboards will likely be on par price wise with Z68 boards available now.

Also the IB CPU's will and should from marketing and naming scheme be slower than a socket2011 i7 CPU

Another little thing is that IB-E is coming at the end of the year and will drop into the board with a BIOS update.

So are you saying the release IB CPU's are not going to be as quick as that i7?

Again, it depends on the usage and which charts you look at, the SB-E does well in muti threaded apps, the IB comes back where raw clock speed matters.

Remember, both have the "K" at the end of the CPU, so overclocking via the multiplier is simples.
