Got handed a working Gigabyte GTX 1060 Windforce oc 3g card.

At first it's nothing to me, but tinkering with the idea of putting it to use -if that's a smart idea?

In terms of use, City Skylines would be what I'm into. I'm flexible on budget but obviously not smart enough to combine cost effect vs performance. So ideas would be appreciated

Should still be fine to play, VRam and system ram are normally first to take a hit. Specially with mods ! But believe now with all the expansion packs that have come out have made some of the earlier must have traffic mods and such redundant .. and they ate all types of ram up !

@tamzzy plays it more then I do (still such a good game - try frostpunk too!)

AMD A520 chipset drops in a few days , £60-70 for a board + 6 core Ryzen and £70 odd for 3209hz ram should do you fine !

Might find yourself wanting 32GB ram if you do love the game, I use to hit 22GB usage and Ryzen 8 cores !

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £555.47 (includes shipping: £10.50)

Dropping some costs for 6 cores. B450 MSI still costly :/

yeah definitely. for CSL, game mods will eat up CPU power, and assets will eat up RAM
CSL utilises up to 8 threads only, so if you're literally only playing CSL, i wouldn't worry about getting extra cores (and ironically going the intel route would be a better choice as intel still has the faster per-core performance, for now at least)

Cheers @tamzzy

Going even cheaper intel side but lacks the OC ability but nabs you 32GB of ram even cheaper..

1060 3GB will hold you back some but nothing from playing the game if you don't mind turning down settings or using mods that go texture crazy etc .

All depends on your budget etc .

PSU, seems to still be empty of stock. Before lockdown there was supply issues for PSU units to be made... Covid hadn't helped

And then if you need WiFi etc

Aye gotcha.

Thanks for the heads up as haven't glanced in psu direction yet. Yikes!
