Hi guys

I have decided to build my first computer. I have picked some specs and wanted to make sure they are definitely all compatible with each other and to generally get a second opinion. This is pretty much my max budget and if anything would like to replace some of the components with cheaper ones if I can do so without effecting performance too much!

CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor £155
CPU Cooler: Enermax Liqtech 120X 111.0 CFM Ball Bearing Liquid CPU Cooler £70
Motherboard: Asus H87M-E Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard £65
Memory: Corsair 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory £92 (Maybe I only need 8GB?)
Storage: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive £48
Samsung Spinpoint F1 DT 750GB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive £25
Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 770 2GB TWIN FROZR Video Card £228
Case: Corsair 350D Window MicroATX Mid Tower Case £80
Case fan: BitFenix BFF-LPRO-20025B-RP 148.7 CFM 200mm Fan £16
Power Supply: XFX TS 550W 80+ Gold Certified ATX Power Supply £53
Wireless Network Adapter: TP-Link TL-WDN4800 802.11a/b/g/n PCI-Express x1 Wi-Fi Adapter £26 (do I need this?)

Total: Just under £860, would be good to reduce this by a fair bit if possible, I'm thinking maybe 8GB ram, no SSD and not liquid cooling?

Thanks!

Hi

Is this just for gaming on ? If so then 8GB is fine.

You have a 200mm fan in you spec, but the 350D only has 120mm/140mm fan mounts as far as I am aware.

Also with that cpu you want a Z97 board.

I think the cooler is a bit pricey given your budget.

Is your pc in a different room than your router ? If so then a wireless card, or powerline adaptor would be needed.

Here is a different spec

YOUR BASKET
1 x Powercolor Radeon R9 280X TurboDUO 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £229.99
1 x Intel Core i5-4690K 3.50GHz (Devil's Canyon) Socket LGA1150 Processor - OEM £179.99
1 x Corsair Obsidian 350D Windowed Micro ATX Case - Black (CC-9011029-WW) £79.99
1 x Gigabyte Z97M-DS3H Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 Micro ATX Motherboard £74.99
1 x TeamGroup Vulcan RED 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-17100C11 2133MHz Dual Channel Kit (TLD38G2133HC11ADC01) £59.99
1 x Crucial MX100 128GB SATA 2.5” 7mm SSD + 9.5mm Adapter (CT128MX100SSD1) £56.99
1 x SuperFlower Golden Green HX 550W "80 Plus Gold" Power Supply - Black £55.99
1 x Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST1000DM003) HDD £42.98
1 x Raijintek Themis Direct Contact CPU Cooler £19.99
Total : £815.90 (includes shipping : £12.50).

The 280X is on par with the GTX 770.

The i5 4690K is pre-order at the moment. The are supposedly due on 23rd June. If you don't want to wait then swap it for the cpu in your spec.

This is a better option than a wireless card in my opinion. They just use a standard plug socket, and as it has passthrough you can plug an extension lead into it should you need more sockets.

YOUR BASKET
1 x TP-Link AV200+ Multi-Streaming Powerline Starter Kit with AC Pass Through (TL-PA251KIT) £24.98
Total : £29.98 (includes shipping : £4.16).

Thanks a lot for the feedback. Think I will definitely use the spec you have suggested. Although I would prefer a wireless card as it means I don't have to have direct access to the router to connect to wireless. Does anyone else have any feedback or any suggestions on how to reduce the price even more?

Actually a USB device is a very good shout. Will 550W defo be enough power? I thought it was probably more than enough but wanted to give a bit extra for possible future upgrades. Anyone got any info on how well this will run games like Bf3/4? And possible across multiple monitors (eyefinity)?

For a single GPU then 550W is enough. The 280X and GTX 770 are very good cards for the money. They are pretty evenly matched.

I haven't used a USB adaptor so I can't comment on that. I did try a Belkin wireless network card though once which was one of those extended range jobs. The signal dropouts eventually made me change it to a powerline.

Give the USB a try though, as they don't cost that much.
