Hello guys,

so as i stated in my thread title i'm building him gaming rig. this is what i came with.

amd2d.jpg

we hope that video card prices will drop a bit if at all after friday, or take nvidias card. is there anything at all that we should change in this spec. should we go with slower ramm? we'll try to squeeze everything from that 955BE.
i'm also considering i5 750 option but it's kinda hard to get descent mobo by not spending too much.
his budget is around 1k for case.
he wants computer to last few years, and i'm thinking by taking amd route, he'll be able to throw 6 core cpu latter on. his main priorities are: that it would last long time, good sound card, and possibility to add second gpu.

Id drop the soundcard, switch the CPU cooler and change to a 5850 and overclock it if he feels the need for 5870 performance.

BIGBC you'r saying to drop current CPU cooler, what would you recommend instead of mine one? i know that integrated sound cards nowadays are quite good, but he wants something more than just integrated s..t, i love my Asus and i don't regret paying 90quid :) Yeah with 5850 you can achieve 5870 performance but overclocked 5870 will give better results than 5850.
CAT-THE-FIFTH i presume that you recommended that asus MB for 8x/8x CF... having modular PSU is better option, and the price difference is not that big.

I would look at the Titan Fenrir or perhaps the CoolIT Eco or Corsair H50. OTH,perhaps it would be worth looking at Frostytech for some reviews.

The HD5850 1GB and HD5870 1GB when at the same frequencies have similar performance IIRC. However since the Nvidia GTX470 and GTX480 are being released this week it is worth waiting a few days as it could mean lower HD5870 1GB prices.

The motherboard can do symmetrical Crossfire and uses the 790X chipset so it is worth the extra cost IMHO and the Antec PSU has 4 PCI-E power connectors meaning you could add another HD5870 at a later date if required.

I was looking at Titan Fenrir and it looks like good cooler, but might be a bit loud, but i think that's not a problem cause anyway you don't hear computer while gaming :D so saved money goes to better mobo and to get that modular PSU. Can't wait for friday evening :)
