Hello!

I'm new to this forum and OCUK in general, so hello! I also find that this forum is extremely useful for helping me out! Been reading loads!

I'm currently in the process of building a gaming computer, i've only ever had them built for me in the past by companies that assemble them for you, as I don't have much knowledge of building one. So technically I am a failure with computers ha!

I currently have;

Antec 1200 Case
Akasa Voodoo CPU cooler..

I'm looking to overclock but I'm not looking into using watercooling! SSD's do not really phase me at the moment. I'm building this computer purely for gaming and intend to make it last in the future.. And to keep upgrading!

I'm looking into;

EVGA GTX580 3GB (SLI in the future)
Corsair AX850W PSU
Gigabyte Z68X UD7 Motherboard (for overclocking)
Western Digital Black Caviar 1TB HDD
Intel i7 Sandybridge 2600 1155 socket! Or greater!
Corsair Vengeance RAM?

I'm rather stuck with the RAM, as the CPU cooler is rather large!

I'd really appreciate the input!

Please do feel free to spec me and give me advice as I could use it, the budget isn't really a problem at the moment..

Many thanks..

if you want overclocking you want the k version(I.e 2600k) as non k versions don't can't be overclocked bar the turbo boost setting(or whatever it's called).

if it's mainly gaming and no encoding etc go for the i2500k, if you must have i7 get the i2700k as it's only a little more and comes with bf3

you want ram without fins as the the cooler over hangs the ram slot/s and the fins will interfer with it.

Ahh I see! I am looking into the i2700k, more so because it is one of the latest CPU's and I want to keep updating! I didn't realise I missed the K off in the first post so I apologise, I did mean to put K on the end but forgot! Oops :D

I see your point about the RAM, yeah the cooler is rather large so I'm guessing with the motherboard I'm purchasing the DIMM slots will be rather close to the cooler, so ones without the fins would be wise. I'm looking into getting the most RAM as I can on the board, the board comes with four slots so I was thinking 16GB in total, but I'm really not sure on the manufacturers/company to go with? Corsair seemed to be the likely one but could you recommend anything else?

Thanks for the input as well :D

Since you seem to have money to throw around, Corsair Vengeance Low Profile. Same as Vengeance, but without a big heat spreader. Else XMS3 or HyperX 12800C9 will do the job just fine.

16GB is OTT really. Start with 8GB, then you can add more later.

If you want some fans to match the voodoo looks, you have the Apache Vipers, which are very good.

Not a big fan of the Antec 1200, but it will do the job.

Some vids to help you out with the build.
