Good Afternoon All,

I am looking for a bit of guidance on selecting my CPU & GPU for a PC I want to build.

I will mostly be playing warzone and occasionaly streaming my gameplay on Twitch/TikTok.

I was thinking of going down the route of Ryzen 7 7800X3D with Radeon RX 7900 XTX or alternatively going with an Intel CPU and RTX 4080 Super but I just cannot decide which is best suited to my needs.

Maybe 7800X3D with 4080 Super? I've no idea to be honest...

Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.

Hi and welcome.

What resolution will you be gaming at ?

Apparently WZ2 loves 3d v cache .

Just as a guide the 7900xtx is 40% faster than a regular 4080 at 1440p in WZ2 but the super will be less.

I just feel like I would be missing out on the Ray Tracing abilities of the 4080. Maybe I've watched too many youtube videos and overthinking this.

Would you say the 7800x3d is a good pairing with the 7900XTX or would you recommend a different CPU?

Ultimately I am after the highest FPS I can get at 1440p

There's no doubt Nvidia wins when it comes to ray tracing but in such a high pace shooters will stop an admire the beauty?

If You want as many fps you can get then the 7900xtx is faster.

The 7800x3d is a beast of a gaming CPU and should be first choice if gaming and budget allows, that's with either GPU .

Thanks for your help Micky.

So now I've narowed it down to the 7900XTX which model do I go for? Theres so many different versions of the same card. Is there any difference between them apart from the way they look?

Gigabyte Radeon RX 7900 XTX AORUS ELITE 24GB GDDR6 PCI-Express Graphics Card... Has a 4 year warranty :]

I usually go for what's on offer at the time read a couple of reviewsbut I would suggest you get a 1000w PSU dondeal with power spikes.

Memory you want 6000mhz c30 expo which is optimal for AM5.

There is also the question if pcie5 support which if wanted will give you extra features such as fast m2 drives but there are cheaper boards pcie4.

I've put some components together , the motherboard has pcie 5 with WiFi, 2tb m2 , case you should pick what you like and CPU cooling there are plenty options air or water ?

If you're not bothered about aesthetics then really, in all honesty, there is not much in them, I'd just try and find one that has good thermals and low noise, Gigabyte noted above is a contender, especially with its warranty, away from that Powercolor Hellhound, Powercolor Red Devil, ASRock Taichi or Sapphire Nitro+ are also good calls but are at the higher end cost wise for a 7900XTX, end of the day look at the price and then read some reviews, if its low cost and isn't going to cause you any grief down the line then you can't go wrong, I would also look at a minimum of 1000w PSU as a must with any of these cards.

I was also in the same boat as you last month, and I went for the 7800X3D twinned with a 4080 Super at the end.... AMD GPU wise I was going to go with the ASRock Taichi 7900XTX, but I managed to get a good deal on the 4080 Super where it was only £50 more.

You might also want to invest in a GPU support brace. Manufacturers have over engineered the coolers on these cards IMO and although they can handle the heat really well it's come at the expense of weight. This is not meant to frighten you but for the sake of a tenner it's a worth buying to help take some of the stain off the PCI bracket.

Most of them actually come with GPU supports in box, including the Gigabyte models, which in my opinion are some of the better ones mechanically and aesthetically, with them utilizing the MOBO stand-offs.

Is there some problem with using the Asus boards with the 7800X3D? I read something about them burning out with the 7800X3D in particular?

No that's all been sorted along time ago with a bios update, it wasn't just Asus but they got the flak because they wasn't going to warrenty the board after using the beta bios.

That all changed after the outrage.

OK that's good to know.

Would there be much benefit to going with the B650E-E over the B650E-F?
