Hi all,

After getting some advice on a previous thread I've decided to build a budget rig. Below is what I'm thinking of going with.

I went with this as it would allow me to upgrade to a better Skylake and a better GFX card in the summer.

Gigabyte Z170-Gaming K3 Intel Z170 (Socket 1151) DDR4 ATX Motherboard
Intel Pentium Dual Core G4520 3.60GHz (Skylake) Socket LGA1151 Processor
EVGA 660 GTX 2GB (Free from a pal)
240GB SanDisk Pro SSD
Team Group Elite 8GB (2x4GB) DDR4 PC4-19200C16 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit - Black (TPKD48GM2400HC16DC0
Kolink KL-500 500W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply
Arctic Alpine 11 Pro Rev.2 CPU Cooler
Antec One Gaming Case

The total from Overclockers is £305. Is there any changes to this that people would make? That's pretty much the budget maxed out.

Thanks,

Andrew

This is what i would get you will be able to drop in a gtx970 with this psu and the i3 is no slouch.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £320.17
(includes shipping: £12.30)

Thanks, I've opted for this build.

The one issue I have is that all the coolers I look at don't fir the 1151 socket. What would people suggest?

If they fit 1155 and 1150, they fit 1151. Their descriptions just won't have been updated. Just check the maximum height allowance for coolers in that case.

Are you going to get an unlocked CPU? If you're considering watercooling in the future, you may as well get the unlocked variant now for the extra few quid.

OP said he's streching his budget already and the closest Skylake K is a 6600K at £200.

Only thing I'd recommend is change case for something like https://www.overclockers.co.uk/aerocool-gt-black-edition-mid-tower-black-ca-101-ae.html so you can fit an aftermarket cooler in there, for example https://www.overclockers.co.uk/alpenfoehn-matterhorn-black-cpu-cooler-hs-050-al.html, which should just fit in that hideous case (158 height vs 158 clearance lol, wish more cheap cases had 160+).

Edit: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/alpenfoehn-brocken-eco-cpu-cooler-120-mm-hs-047-al.html a 150mm height cooler, supposed to be a pretty good one.

Indeed, but he's going to buying one anyway in the summer, so my suggestion is to buy it now, thus saving money in the long run, as he'll be watercooling it later on too.

Thanks for all the replies gents.

Such a great community in here. Taking everything on board.

I can't go to the £200 CPU at the moment due to finances. I'm due my company bonus end of May start of July. I'll be using that to buy the better CPU.

So that's my build complete.

The one issue I had was that I couldn't put m,y RAM in slot 1 as the CPU cooler was too low and blocked it.

I've now got my ram in channel 3 and 4. Will that make a difference?
