Hi Guys,

been a few years since i built a pc from scratch so need some advice on my next pc build, my current spec is -

Windows XP

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+

GA-K8N Pro-SLI

GeForce 8800 GTS 512mb

2gig ram

2x160HD

OCZ ModXStream Pro 600w Silent PSU

21.5" acer v223hq 1980x1080 monitor <<-just purchased

thinking about purchasing the following -

windows 7 <---already got

Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5850 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £198.98

AMD Phenom II X3 Tri Core 720 Black Edition 2.80GHz (Socket AM3) £97.99

Asus M4A79XTD Evo (Socket AM3) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard £84.99

Western Digital Caviar Black 500GB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM (WD5001AALS) £45.99

not sure on ram so it's either -

OCZ Obsidian 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 Dual Channel (OCZ3OB1600LV4GK) £72.99

or

G.Skill Ripjaw 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit) £72.99

gonna re-use the monitor, case, PSU, mouse, etc etc

Is this a decent spec for the money or as anyone got any suggestions on what to change, if so, what ??

Cheers

loos like a good spec. If you can, try go for a quad core phenom.
Change your hard drive to a samsung f3 as they are faster.
Go for the s skill ripjaw as many people use it and good reviews.
Looks like a fantastic build.

Nice spec, I would go with the G.Skill, better timmings also I had 2 lots of OCZ memory for my I7 setup which was faulty :p

thx for the replies so far :)

did look at samsung HD's (googled) quite a few users have had trouble with them, some only lasting a couple of months before getting the dreaded click-click-click then dead drive.

G.Skill for the ram it is then :)

Arr well then mate, go for the black :) I don;t think there would be a lot of performance difference, just slightly. But yeah, go for the ram mate and get the x3 black edition as you have more change on unlocking the 4th core from users.
