*First Post - howdy folks*

So, been viewing these forums for the past few days after looking to build my own PC (not attempted this for a very long time). I have come up with the spec below, was wondering what folks thought..??

CPU - Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4ghz - Skt775 Fsb1066 4mb Cache Boxed In £208.87

CASE - Antec P180 EU Aluminium Super Miditower - No PSU £81.95

PSU - Antec TruePower Trio 650W PSU - With 3x 12v Rails and 120mm Fan £84.98

M'Board - Ga-965p-ds4 S775 965p Atx - Snd+gln+1394+ub2 Fsb1066 Sata In £116.34

RAM - OCZ (OCZ2P8002GK) 2GB (2x1024MB) DDR2-800 PC2-6400 CL 4-5-4-15 PLATINUM XTC EDITION DUAL CHANNEL KIT (LIFETIME WARRANTY) £222.39

GFX - MSI 7900GTO 512MB DDR3 DVI TVO SLI ready PCI-E £180.67

H'Disk - Western Digital WD2500KS Caviar SE 250GB 7200RPM SATA2/300 16MB Cache - OEM £51.65

DVD - Sony AW-G170AB2 18xDVD±RW/RAM Dual Layer Writer Black - Bare Drive £19.99

DVD#2 - LG GDR-8164BL 16x52 DVD-ROM Internal IDE (Black) - OEM £10.72

Overall is £988.85 (a certain websites prices - £1000 budget)

so what yee folks think? good setup for a lil overclocking? or can any1 recommend better bits + bobs?

thx for reading :D

*EDIT* note taken and ty :)

why not go for the slightly cheaper mobo ds3?? as long as ** not running XFIRE or SLI setup u be fine...

what do u use ** pc for??

I wouldnt spend that amount of cash on a gfx card atm, what with dx10 being released in a few months...beter off buying a £40 6800 from a competitor then when dx10 is out spend that money on a gfx card that will last u longer then your chosen one...

i would get the geil 2gb pc6400 800mhz RAM instead of ** chosen RAM...

as the cpu, ds3, geil are a great combo...

I agree with the above recommedations :D
Motherboard - Gigabyte DS3
RAM- Geil 2gb low latency ram (also cheaper!)
Not sure about graphics card, depends how desperate you are to get "back on the battlefield"

Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket 775) (HS-017-AR) £14.99

Personally I would have to go for a tuniq tower or a scynthe ninja rev B

Seasonic S12 500W Silent ATX2.0 Power Supply (CA-001-SS) £67.99

I would go for an enermax 620w because I wouldnt want to find in a few months I need more juice...

"I would go for an enermax 620w because I wouldnt want to find in a few months I need more juice..."

Enermax Noisetaker 600W EG701AX-VE(W) SFMA ATX2.0 SLI Compliant PSU (CA-021-EN)

Not modular, but cheaper and quiter

I think the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler is probably best value for money.

Thankyou for the replies folks, really much appreciated :)

I was thinking of waiting for the dx10 graphics cards; and i am able to wait, but unsure of prices and what cards will be available, not looked into it in detail but will do now.

Thx for adding the CPU fan in their too btw hp7909, wasnt sure whether or not i got 1 with the CPU or not.

Also, why is the DS3 better than the DS4 (apart from price)?

Oh and i plan on going SLI @ some point so thats why i went for the NVidia card, easier with the bridge as apposed to the crossfire thing with ATI, as far as i can tell.

I also forgot an OS lol, need Win XP or Vista but unsure which to go for, does Vista have compatability setting so i can run ancient games in their (of the time) OS's?

i hate being semi-n00bie when it comes to building PC's, anyway, thx again folks :)

Well, since its 'Retail', i.e. not OEM, there is a HSF included. But the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro is better than the bundled especially if overclocking (see here) :)

& Windows Vista is not yet out. Its still in 'Beta' form. Just get XP Home ;)
