Building New Rig - £750

MX-2 instead of AS5
Gskills instead of bollostix, 4gb a must as well.
Tuniq Tower or TRUE = a must.
HDD is fine.

You could save 15 quid on the motherboard.
520 version of the PSU will be fine as well. So you can save some cash there.

I personally don't like the case but the choice goes up to you ofcourse.
It's very silent but there is not too much space and the cable management is terrible imo. It also weighs similar to small car.

dont get an xtreme audio get one of the more expensive versions if you want an xfi card.
The entry-level model of the X-Fi series, the Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio, does not actually have the EMU20K1 chip but is a re-branded Audigy SE, using the same family of chips (CA0106-WBTLF), and even the same drivers.[12] Thus, not only is all of the X-Fi–related processing performed in software, but it also lacks basic hardware acceleration just like the SB Live! 24-bit, the Audigy SE and other budget Soundblaster models. The X-Fi Xtreme Audio does not use the same drivers as the rest of the X-Fi family, some games do not recognize it as being "X-Fi capable hardware", and the device's hardware profile resembles that of older Live! and Audigy cards.

Furthermore, users have reported that it slows down some applications and games, and that rear sound in games (all) is muffled and of profoundly low quality.[13][14][15] Thus, even if the card is marketed as part of the X-Fi line, it does not belong to it technically, just like the Audigy SE doesn't technically belong to the Sound Blaster Audigy series. The card is not marketed as supporting the "X-Fi Gaming Mode" (but is still marketed as "X-Fi"), and there are no official implicit or explicit statements regarding its having hardware acceleration or not.

If not OCing, you could save by getting PC6400 RAM sticks.

Sound card, perhaps this? Gets good reviews ;)

As Mentioned, HX 520W will suffice, unless you plan to go CrossFire?

I would change the cpu to either a Q6600 or E8400
Tuniq Tower 120 & possibly MX-2
Ram is a no no for me too, 6400 is enough. 4GB of geil or corsair xms should do the trick. (that crucial stuff is 2.2V and doubt it will boot with stock board settings)

Lamboman's posted a good spec, but I'd switch the Antec 900 back to the P182 or the Lian Li PC-A17, as even with dust filters, the 900 will smother your nice shiny new components in the filth.

If you're going for a Soundcard, the only option for £50 is the Asus Xonar DX.

That is true. If you are anything like me, you will clean your PC monthly :D But, if you are lazy, definitely go with the other two.

Thanks for advice guys. Below is what i've swaped in from the previous screenie.

Change log:

GeIL 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-6400C5 800MHz Black Dragon DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GB24GB6400C5DC)

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 LGA775 'Wolfdale' 3.00GHz (1333FSB) - Retail

Arctic Cooling MX-2 Thermal Compound

Corsair HX 520W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU (CMPSU-520HXUK)

Antec Nine Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case
/Change log

Is the case a good choice - i read that dust could be a problem? and How much better(in temp) is the Turniq cooler compared to putting a freezer pro.
- Will it fit in?

Thanks again guys/gals you've been really helpful.

That's the spec you want there !
Tuniq Tower is a lot better than AF, both in terms of noise and temps.

About the cases I don't like either but maybe that's because im really picky in terms of space, I love huge cases with tons of space.

Very happy with my thermaltake shark, not the most silent choice ( but the components are dead silent so whatever ! ).

Coolermaster has some nice cases as well but they start at higher prices, about 120GBP+ range.

But after all the choice of case belongs 100% to you, however, I would choose one with lots of space and drives mounted sideways ( makes a lot more space for GPUs and gives somewhat better airflow and makes stuff more tidy). Remember, a good case will stay with you for further upgrades so its worth the extra few pounds if you can take something really good.

Crucial ballistix is the best ram 48 hour scotland rma turnaround if it ever goes wrong the rest you have o send off to tawain and places like that.
It's a shame they don't do 2gb sticks here, 2gb is fine never understood all the get 4 gb stuff when how many games actually use 2gigs of ram let alone over 2 gigs I guess if vista runs better thats the only reason to get over 2 gigs.

I would still get 2 sticks of this 2GB, Ballistix 240-pin DIMM, DDR2 PC2-6400 memory module BL25664AA80A over any other ram they do sell 2gb sticks but just not in a 4gb pack.

What is the point of the great RMA service, if you will be doing it every 3 months anyway? I would much rather have modules that are working, than a great RMA service, and great overclocking memory, that doesn't last very long. You need a LOT of cooling on the Ballistix, or else they are gone.

Had my ballistix for a year no problems at all with no cooling on them just because a few people over volt or push theirs too far doesn't mean it's dodgy ram.
I have changed my views now and in future will only buy parts that have a uk based rma service it's cheaper and faster.
I'd much rather have a 48 hour rma turnaround at the risk of ram going than a 6 week turnaround having to go without my pc for that long.

That was a bloody quick reply lol. If you read around, you will hear a lot more horror stories about dead Ballistix than any other memory. No doubt, they are great chips, but they have been on the fall more recently. The older chips didn't suffer from any of these problems IIRC.

It's a mute point anyway as I have just read that he isn't overclocking so in that case get the cheapest 4gb kit.
No that crucial ram failing myth has always been around and it is just a myth really as other brands fail yet nobody moans about it on here much so it doesn't get that reputation.
Take corsair power supplies they fail all the time mine did and lots of others but people still recommend them in almost every thread going.

I have just realised that you have said that you won't be overclocking this thing. It is so easy with the new Intel chips, that there is no reason not to. Simply a case of bumping up the FSB to 333MHz if you are lazy, and you have a no-crap 3GHz clock speed. Why not?
