As above, Motherboard is Gigabyte Z77M-D3H
The manual states SPDIF Out header, which I want to tap into to and DIY an RCA coaxial SPDIF output.
My question is about the Voltage of the SPDIF header?
Coax Spdif is 0.5V which is what I need.
optical is 5V...which can blow my Dac!
Info from Manual:
"1 x S/PDIF Out header"
"This header supports digital S/PDIF Out and connects a S/PDIF digital audio cable (provided by expansion
cards) for digital audio output from your motherboard to certain expansion cards like graphics cards and
sound cards. For example, some graphics cards may require you to use a S/PDIF digital audio cable for
digital audio output from your motherboard to your graphics card if you wish to connect an HDMI display
to the graphics card and have digital audio output from the HDMI display at the same time. For information
about connecting the S/PDIF digital audio cable, carefully read the manual for your expansion card."
Header has two pins:
Pin1: SPDIFO
Pin2: GND
I dont know whether the Spdif voltage is for internal TTL at 5 v or external SPDIF at .5 v
Looking around the web there are different takes on this, so wanted to ask the question here...
*EDIT*
Looked at the pinout config's for the Gigabyte spdif bracket from post here:
http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=142492
and there's an extra +5V pin there, which would be to power the optical I assume?
So from that would seem I'm good to go?
Thanks guys,
