Hey guys, so i've been wanting to build a new computer essentially, but only the main core parts of it (CPU, GPU and Motherboard) as i want to use the existing parts inside it as the core for a second PC, i already have the smaller parts for a second pc and the stuff inside this rig is good enough to run any setup and compatible with any part, so i've been looking into these three components.

I essentially wanna future proof my pc for the next 5 years or so, the parts in this rig are actually pretty good atm (i7 2600, gtx 680) but i wanted to build a secondary pc for my younger brother to be able to play with me as he has moved in with me recently and it'd be awesome to have rigs we can both play and have a proper gaming room!

Anyone got any suggestions that might be better? The parts i have so far that i wont replace are a xigmatex 750w, 8GB samsung green (but i plan to replace that with 16GB of a newer brand soon as i cant find green anywhere anymore) a Samsung 840 SSD, 2 Velociraptor 1tb HDDs and i've got a sound card and optical drive and all that stuff in a Zalman Z9 Case, might actually get a new case aswell cause the 980 may not fit!

Any thoughts? Thanks for checking out the thread :)

Is yellow+black the theme you are going for?

How about more black and a few bits of gold with Black Edition board which has a 5 year warranty and a free upgrade within 3 years - http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18631511

YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte Z97X-UD3H-BK - Devil's Canyon Core i7 4790K CPU & Motherboard Bundle **£35 Saving** £365.98
Total : £375.58 (includes shipping : £8.00).

That is a nice mobo/cpu combo, looks similar to my existing motherboard z68xp-ud3p, does it have PCIe3.0? Cant really tell from the page.

Not really going for any sort of theme but from the look of it it does have a black/yellow theme and it looks nice :)

I think this motherboard might be better for me, i'm not a huge overclocker (The only thing i overclock is my CPU and my RAM to 2133) so aslong as it can manage those i would be fine!

That board does have PCI-E3.0.

I also think a simpler blackish heatsink will be good for you,

1 x Alpenföhn Brocken ECO CPU Cooler - 120 mm £24.95
1 x Raijintek Themis Black Heatpipe CPU Cooler PWM - 120mm £19.99

Reason i went for the one i did was the reviews and i wanted to make sure i got one that would let me OC to 4.5 easily and at acceptable temps. But i'll look into these ones, the mobo/cpu combo saves me a lot of money.

What monitor & PSU do you currently have/will be getting?

I run a BenQ 120hz 2720 and a 750w Xigmatex PSU

I would say its a waste spending any more than £150 on a motherboard. You won't see any benefit apart from it looking a little flashier.

Yea i can imagine, i wanted to also get a new CPU mostly cause i want to OC to 4.5 to help with multi tasking/titles getting more demanding, plus i think theres a small fault with my current motherboard causing a stutter, but my brother doesnt notice when he palys so says he doesnt mind.
