Hello,

Couple of months ago I opened a post as I was considering buying the 1950x, at the end I decide to wait for the 2nd generation.

Right now I am trying to buy the full system from OC but I am not able to find any motherboard available. I have been waiting for a while without any luck "out of stock". Do we know if is any reasons associated to it? Also, are any of these models compatible with 2950x (i do not have any 19XX to update the mb). Not interested in overclocking btw.

Finally, this is the build I am considering (opinions?) I already have SSD and graphic card:
  • AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2950X 4.4GHz
  • Team Group Dark Pro "8Pack Edition" 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 PC4-25600C14 3200MHz
  • Asus ROG Strix X399-E AMD X399 (Not available why?)
  • Lian-Li PC-O11 Dynamic Midi-Tower
  • Enermax LiqTech II TR4 360 (No available why?)
  • Seasonic Prime Ultra Platinum 750W 80 Plus Platinum Modular (enough for this system and a 2080?)

Thank you!

Any TR4 motherboard will support any threadripper CPU. Not sure why they are all sold out though. The only one I could find was the ASUS ROG on a competitors website but it's over £500.

There is no chipset change for the 2xxx series Threadripper but you will likely need a bios update. The Asus X399-E Strix has bios flashback (As do a lot of Asus boards) so you don't need a cpu to update the bios.

There is 1 left in stock if you are quick.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £390.49 (includes shipping: £10.50)

Also just noticed the Ram you listed. You want to be getting 4 sticks of Ram as you can run Quad channel on TR4.

Was just going to say that! It's not critical, but there's a noticeable boost with quad channel. You're typically better going for Quad over raw speed, in fact! Phoronix did an article on it recently.

Yes sorry, 2 of Team Group Dark Pro "8Pack Edition" 16GB (2x8GB). At the end, I am with the corsairs 4x16GB 3000MHZ and C15 (100 pounds more expensive but 64 GB).

This is what I have until now, ready to buy BUT the problem is the cooler LiqTech TR4 II RGB 360 as now it is not available in overclockers... any other suggestion? It is almost impossible to buy a computer xD

There are a lot of supply issues on X399, the problem stems from the 2000 series threadripper requiring more power than the original boards were designed to supply. They support the CPU but can experience temperature related issues under heavy, sustained load.

The manufacturers are therefore having to refresh the VRM designs. The Strix is part of that older generation and there is no stock remaining now in the supply channel. We should have a small number arriving tomorrow but then that could be it for some time, possibly ever.

The LiqTech TR4 II RGB 360 cooler is suffering a similar fate and supply is likely to be problematic for a while.

There is a CoolerMaster alternative: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/cool...ml360-rgb-tr4-cpu-cooler-360mm-hs-07z-cm.html

Did X399 come out with the first generation Threadripper or did it come out with the second generation? Are boards like MSI's X399 MEG Creation board one of these ones that is flawed or is that a newer one that is fine?

X399 is the only chipset for TR4 socket CPU's so both generations of Threadripper, so far. The MSI X399 Creation board is one of the newer style boards that will handle the higher 250w TDP of the 2970WX and the 2990WX, all of the original boards happily worked with the 1920X/1950X and do so with the 2920X and the 2950X as they are all 180w TDP CPU's.

Most of the board manufacturers are simply offering an up revision of the board, some however and EOLi'ng and bringing out entirely new models, if you are not intending to buy the 2970WX/2990WX CPU's then there is little to worry about in which revision board you use.

Thanks. I'd already bout the MSI Meg Creation board so was worried if I'd got one of those weaker ones. Sounds like I'm good.
