My friend, an asthma sufferer who works for a supermarket is going through a refit. Most of the work is done when the store is closed. Yesterday, she was struggling to breathe from the dust created from removal of old fixtures, sawn wood, mdf etc. Plus the fumes from the industrial paint and solvents used in the staff areas. Particularly rooms such as the toilets as room is small and no window. Plus HnS issues such as walking on plastic sheeting down a corridor in half darkness (light was removed/power switched off for work)

In the past, when any major refits happened, the supermarket in question was closed 10-12 days. Supermarket chain is putting profit before safety. Plus the refit work is taking twice as long as if the store was closed.

My friend took a few puffs of her inhaler and volunteered to put the new promotions in the car park etc but that didn't take long.

Is it acceptable for staff to work in these conditions?
