I've just spent over £700 inc OS on a computer which I'd spent a good few weeks looking over deciding if I should really spend so much.

I took the plunge and it arrived yesterday and I got it working. Its supposed to be a htpc!

Got home from work at 4 and went straight on it......

Ripped a few blu rays using makeMKV

Problem 1. Play back is juddery on an i3 based system.

Problem 2. It wont output dts hd master in any format through my amp.

Problem 3. It will not work with xbmc as the library box is always greyed out.

I've just come off it and no further now then I was at 4pm!

It won't let me adjust the graphics bit as it's greyed out.
The sound will let me change bits but outputs the surround through my fronts
Xbmc has been re-installed tried dvd's/blu rays but nothing will enable the media library icon.

All the drivers are installed and up to date. Running windows 7 premium 64bit.

I do want to get it sorted but after today I'm pretty sure i made the wrong decision

So you are using the i3's inbuilt graphics core?

Have you run the WEI (windows experience index)? this doesnt look like it does much, and it gives you a pointless score, but it seems to help the operating system to "learn" the hardware.

Yeah I ran it mate got 4.9 for my graphics and video which was the lowest marks.

I was expecting it to be a bit ott for a htpc but obviously somethings not happy!

Almost definitely sounds like a driver/software issue. My Athlon II X2 240 plays mkv files perfectly through xbmc. What version of xbmc are you running? How is the sound connected to the amp? Presumably you've disabled audio over hdmi and outputting VIA spdif or optical? Download media player classic hd cinema and try using that to see if that works. Ensure all drivers for the motherboard are upto date too.
