I finally managed to put together my new rig last night and the boot goes to the BIOS etc no problems. woot :D

Is there anything I need to do before I start installation of XP? (apart from the temp check to see if the heat sink was fitted correctly).

Once installed, I guess I need to think about updating BIOS, mb drivers, graphic card drivers etc. Is there a recommended order in which to do these updates?

How long does an average XP install take? Depending on the time, it maybe an evening or weekend job! ;)

Thanks all

Install the latest drivers, sure but unless you know of a problem with the bios that means it requires an update then I probably wouldn't bother.

XP install depends on the speed of your PC but to just install the OS itself should normally be under 30 mins nowadays and multiple reboots of course, drivers and the like will probably take the same again at least and then there is patching Windows to be up to date which varies according to the speed of your connection.

If it's a conroe rig, then XP will install very quickly. When installed, insert the mobo CD and install the chipset/LAN/Audio drivers (as required). Then install DX9.0c and graphic drivers.

Thanks for that. Does the XP CD format my HD first, or do I have to fdisk it?
