Right, this may take some explaining, but please stick with it.

i bought a Sony GPS unit (sorry cant remember the exact modal atm) for my new motor (58 plate Clio) as the car didtn come with any built in, as opposed the Laguna I traded in. Whilst this is an OK unit, i am not entirely happy with the asthetics of having it mounted on a stand on my dash.

As a iPhone owner, was happy to see TomTom bring out their app and bought it, awaiting the arrival of the cradle for it (i know i mentioned about cradles above:p). Was rather disgusted to see that after paying £60 for the app, they now want another £100 for the cradle. That idea has now been assigned to the 'Not a hope in hell' folder.

Whilst looking on the TomTom website, i noticed that they do an in-built, dedicated Carminat unit for Renault. What am after (eventually) is does anyone know if this can be bought as an after-market add-on and if so, what doe sit cost and can it be fitted by myself?

Thanks foi ractually getting this far if you have and look forward to the very sage (and probably sarcastic :p:p) replies

you can usually retrofit sat navs, the dealer may even do it for you (for some weird reason its actually cheaper to get someone to retrofit the audi sat-navs than spec it up as an option...)

You'll need to work out which parts are needed and then order them from the dealer, not going to be cheap.

The other option is to get a decent brodit cradle for your iPhone and a HU that will power and take audio from it then use one of the cheaper (and still as good) sat nav apps for the iphone, i use this setup with Navigon and not had any problem apart from when people call me, but you can switch back to the navigation pretty quickly.

Have emailed Renault to ask this very same question. Is amazing how many times they have replied to me. My Inbox is competely overwhelmed form the staggaring amount of traffic........oh hang on, it isnt, they didnt reply.

Have thought of ringing them, but is slightly difficult given that I am in the middle of the Indian Ocean atm, so may wait until i get back to the uk for that

Was going to kep it seperate as my missus has bought me a parrot kit for hands-free and also i-pod playback. Have a Kenwood HU fom the Laggy with USB connections, but even though ISO connectors are fine, am not using it due to the Clio having the stalk and everyting run on Canbus and the adaptors costing a small fortune. Plus, it doesnt fit in teh hole where the factory standard one goes.

Why are these things never easy..........:p
