should i be able to use the built in infrared port on my latitude d600 with my media centre remote?

i've been through the dell support pages to enable the port (first in the bios, then installing the drivers, then enabling the device in control panel) but it doesn't seem to be working.

unfourtunately i dont have any other infrared devices to be able to test with.

any help gratefully received!

In a word... No.

The infrared port on your laptop is IrDA, which is a completely different kettle of fish compared to the infrared that a remote control uses, it's for data.

that reminds me; my case has a built in IR port but i dont know how to fit it :( thers no labeling telling me the + - or anything like that on the wire, and its an 8 pin connecter problems being that the bit its meant to go onto my board has only 6 pins :( help

sry, to 'thread-jack' or whatever its called lol :D

it could potentially be that the ir port is supposed to take up one of your usb headers? seems a bit odd though considering it sounds like your board has a dedicated header? hit up your motherboard manufacturer for some support.

maybe your right about it needing a usb header, only problem with that im usings them both... unless both the 4 pin usb's can go into the one 8 pin usb header, when i first installed it i was unsure about this so i used both headers on my borad to play it safe :)
