question for the more knowledgeable folks on here......

the oven went pop and needs replacing - simple i thought, it's a built in single oven & grill, so started having a look online. turns out the opening we have for it to fit in is not standard - it's only 51cm deep. it's a ~6 year old b&q kitchen (not my choice....hers) and it seems it was built specifically for the utter dross cata ovens they supplied at the time.

my question is, there's a good 10-11 extra cm behind the 'finished' back of the recess. can i just cut the paperthin back out and fit a more 'normal' oven in?

it's just a bare wall behind, tracked a bit with a bit of exposed ducting to carry the oven cable to the wall socket. only thing worth mentioning that is making me a bit 'itchy' about just opening the back right out is the electrical consumer unit is almost directly above the oven - about 1.2m, is that worth a consideration?

fyi the full dimensions of the opening are ~H56.5cm x W64cm - those at least seem kind of standard(ish)

btw - no, ripping the awful kitchen out and fitting a proper one is not a consideration at this moment in time! :p

If it were mine I'd be quite happy to cut the back out, I can't remember ever seeing an appliance housing with a back anyway.

And 1.2M up to the CU is quite a healthy distance, it wouldn't concern me in the slightest.

Remove the back panel, most oven cupboard don't have a back panel (well ones I've worked on anyway)
