Hey,

I am currently waiting for our new house to be built and I am looking into having some fitted wardrobes. We would like wardrobes that fit flush in the space in our bedroom, with full height mirrors, and sliding doors.

I originally looked at Sharps and they seemed why too pricey and out of our budget range.

Here is an example of what our house would look like, they have fitted wardrobes with doors, but we want the same but with sliding mirror doors.

Anyone got any recommendations? - I looked at IKEA, but not too sure if they would measure and fit it all for us?

A vote for Ikea wardrobes here. We wanted built in but for the price we paid (£550) we got a wardrobe that fitted the gap to within 1 cm on either side and has 1 full length mirror door. Lots of flexibility in options and load out as well. Plus side is they can be taken with us if we ever move.

Did they fit them for you?

Nope, took about 5-6 hours to put them together with me and the wife, very straight forward to do. They are standard Ikea flat pack but in terms of quality and fit they worked out perfect for what we needed. They have a builder on their website that you can play around with. My suggestion would be to measure the gap you have ad just see how the fit would look using their builder.

I don't think IKEA do wardrobes specifically designed to be built in neatly? They just sell the Pax range which you would have to build in yourself or just leave freestanding (albeit fixed to the wall to stop it tipping).

They don't, but you can mix and match between different widths of what they do, and as suggested if they will fit the gap nicely (ours worked out to only have a 1cm gap either side) then its worth considering.

We've got "built in" Ikea Pax wardrobes. As long as your room isn't a very unusual shape you'll find a solution that fits well. The combinations and size of them offer remarkably good storage options. They do take a bit of time to put together, but they're not too challenging. Like all other Ikea furniture, they don't like being taken apart or moved once they're in place!

Another vote for IKEA PAX, very well built and not a bad price. As said the combinations should get you a close fit and if there is an end gap just order an extra panel you can easily cut down to fill. Also removing skirting where they fit will allow you to butt them up to the walls to give that fitted look.

I'm a big fan of the Ikea Pax and am in the process of building an entire rooms worth including making them look fully fitted.

I'm not however sure they are suitable in this scenario:
  • The image appears to show the wardrobes built into a sloping roof (I'm guessing it's on the 3rd storey?) and with limited depth due to the doorway on the left. You will therefore likely need bespoke shaped carcasses
  • The OP wants them installed, Ikea are supply only and self-install
Have you tried speaking to the developer? They usually have standard options for built in wardrobes and can be fairly cost effective as they are only semi-bespoke due to having designed/installed them in other properties.

We bought our new build in 2014, paid the developer just over £900 and they had Hammonds supply and install.

We got some large 2-door sliding wardrobes, really good quality and been happy with them.

Taylor Wimpey offered these but only basic ones when we moved in.

(2 years ago now) We got hammonds and sharps in to price up fitting wardrobes in my little daughters room...sharps were ridiculous and hammonds was way under half the cost. £1500 was still pricey but very happy with them.

We have been that happy with the ones in my daughters bedroom we got Hammonds back in January to fit the same style of wardrobes in what is now the nursery, slightly increased cost to £1600 but was happy to pay this.

Yes you can go to IKEA etc, but the quality is nowhere near. Hammonds give you Solid backs, good quality hinges and drawers and a decent guarantee.
