Hi all not been on for a couple of months & this is one of the things that has kept me busy.
Bought an old Transit from some nice old Carpenter chap lived tuther side of Tunnel, Long drive & well out the way but I think that's why I got the Tranny so cheap as nobody wanted to go down there :p
I do know my Transits though & made sure I bought a damn good one.
The one I got is a Transit LWB Hi Roof with the 2.4DDi engine in it not those 2 litre Durotec knackers. Had just 117k Miles up it & it's Gen. Drives mint, pulls real well, No smoke on start up or when I thrashed it.
Transit the day I bought it.

It had a window in the sliding door & a window tuther side with an opening slider at the top of it, Nice.

Then I got busy in the back, Insulated with Celotex, Boarded out, Lining Carpet top to bottom. Bought an old Caravan & stripped it for the bench seats bed Four rings, sink, drainer. Bought a unit up B&Q, Leccy Hook Up with 3 x 13amp sockets. Brand new porta loo, Installed fixed etc 4.5kg gas cylinder piped secured & connected to the 4 rings, Bit of wood few other bits.

& Bingo.

Sink is under the drainer.

Came with a little monitor & a camera on teh back but it didn't work when I got it, After a bit of fiddling this happened :D

Pics great & well usable, Can hook up your Satnav to it as well apparently.

Well I ain't been on for a couple of months & that was what I was doing with 3 weeks of that time. :p

Looks awesome!

Any reason you never went for a rock and roll bed? Keep costs down? I really want a van/camper conversion.

The width of a Transit is about 6ft2 but once boarded out etc it's shy of 6ft across. I'm 6ft 5 so the bed went long ways. :p

So the next question is what do you intend to do with it that couldn't be achieved with a tent? :p

Well actually I just turned it into a bike that had an asking price of £3200. :p

Now you are all wondering how much I paid for the Transit & how much I spent in the back. I can tell you this, It wasn't 3200 quid. :p:p:p

Looks pretty sweet but.. where's the portaloo? And how do the seats make a bed?

PS a rock'n'rolla bed can go lengthways too (like the one in my Transporter ;))

I intensely dislike camping. I dislike caravans and motorhomes even more. However, I am a hypocrite as one day when I retire I'd love to take something like this around Europe and follow all the European F1 races.

Great job!

When you open the rear doors you are faced with a panel at each end of the bench seats, It's carpet lined so looks right but the panels slide out for easy access to under the rear of the bench seats.
One side I have the portaloo & tuther side I have the 4.5Kg gas bottle. Works well for access straight out the back doors.
As for Privacy for dumping I had a Privacy curtain going across the van cab end of the Bench seats. With this curtain pulled across it was the easiest cheapest way of setting up some Privacy for the Doris to get changed etc & to take a Dump/whatever.

If I had the rock & roll bed across the back of the van I would have lost the Full access & the clean walk through that there is. I also bought the caravan for a good price so wanted to make best use of it. ;)

This was my first Conversion though so things were missed & mistakes were made, I was on a Massive learning curve & did All the work out on the street in front of mine. All the while being told by everybody I know that I couldn't do what I intended out on the street like that.
As the days went on to a week or 2 then 3 the compliments started & the offers come flooding in. Seriously I lost track of all the offers I had.

Anyways this was my first my second will be better & 3rd better still.

I dislike camping but I like what you've done! It's man's attempt to colonise un chartered territory more bearable. Also comes in handy should zombies ever become a prevalent problem. I like it!

Have you re-registered it?

I understand it can be a bit of a ballache!

(OTOH, for some utterly unfathomable reason, if you do so you are no longer bound by the Van speed limits! Go figure??? )
