I built a new PC last night, pressed the power switch and nothing happened.

It is built with all new parts:

This is basically the parts, with a couple of changes.
I got a corsair RM1000x instead of the 850.
I switched the motherboard to the MSI Tomahawk
I bought 32gb of corsair vengeance RAM instead of the ballistix
It is built in a meshify 2 case
EDIT - forgot to mention the gpu is 3080ti FE

Absoloutely nothing seems to happen, no fan whirr no lights on motherboard or case

The only sign of life is that light comes on in the ethernet port, when I turn off the power switch that light goes off.

What I have tried so far:
1 Pressing power switch several times!
2. Changing plug socket
3. Unplugging an replugging the motherboard power cables
4. Unplugging and replugging every cable going into PSU
5. Unplugging and replugging all the front panel connectors

I do still have my old PC, it is broken in that it wont get as far as booting windows, but will power on. When iget back from work this afternoon, I was planning to see if my new PSU can power the old PC, to try and rule out the PSU being the problem.

Any other suggestions? I have found a massive list of things to try, like resetting the CMOS, reseating the RAM etc Given that there is not even a spark of life, what assumptions would you make, and what would you try first

That the ethernet light comes on indicates there is power. My first thought is that you have a short. So take everything out of the case and try it atop the motherboard box - DONT put it on the anti-static bag.

Assuming you've done the CMOS reset etc. I'd disconnect everything that isn't need and take it out of the system first, so in your case get rid of the graphics card, and use the onboard GPU (make sure to plug in your monitor to the motherboard!) disconnect the SSD, and all of the peripherals you have connected via USB, including the keyboard and mouse etc.

Once you've done the above attempt to power the system on, if that doesn't work then the next step would be to, test with just one RAM stick in the correct slot, then take it out and bench test it, but I'd also check your CPU socket for bent pins at this point as well.

EDIT: You could also test your new PSU in you old machine, to make sure it works correctly.

If I am just turning it on for a few seconds to check if it will power up, is it necessary to put the aio on?

I assume not, and it will be a bit of a hassle!

Try shorting the pins for the power button on the motherboard before you strip it down, check you not plugged your pcie power cable to the CPU.

Will be fine.

Does the case come with motherboard standoffs that you have to insert before you fit the motherboard ?

No, it is not safe. The CPU will need to be on for some time to train the RAM and go through the initial BIOS boot.

Just use the stock Intel cooler. Or rest an air cooler on top.
