Hi,

Yesturday evening i built a new computer consisting of:

Asus P5Q-Pro
Q6600 G0 (Retail)
Kingston HyperX 4GB 8500
Sunbeam Core Contact Freezer

All the other components were from my last PC.

Now once Windows XP was installed, i checked CPU-Z (latest) and came across a few things that confuses me. The first was the clock speed adjusting. Now i understand the purpose of this feature, but what exactly do i need to turn off in the BIOS to remove all features of Speedstep? (for overclocking later)

The second thing that confuses me is this:

How come the memory is only at 400? I thought 800Mhz RAM would be at 400, and 1066 RAM (which i have) would be 533? Is this because i havent set anything up in the BIOS as of yet? And also, the last part of the memory timing is wrong (18 when i believe it should be 15 according to ocuk site) Again, is this something i have to set up myself? Also, why does it say that the memory speed does rate above 400?

We have the same mobo. Disable 'C1E' and 'SpeedStep', located around the same place in bios. It's at 400MHz at DDR2, so double data rate, so 800MHz. I would set the important 4 settings for ram manually in bios, auto doesn't always (ever) work. I have 4gb Geil ram and it wouldn't work at 1066MHz, but runs at 860Mhz and 4-4-4-12 ok. I wouldn't worry too much about 1066MHz, because to get to that speed you'll probably be on a 5:6 divider which will give you very little real world gain. 1:1 is best. It looks like OCUK site is wrong, because its 18 in the timings table. You could try tighter timings once you've found the limit to CPU clock. I found memset to be useful for a more complete listing of ram timings. Also, setting Row Refresh Cycle to 60 or 55 in bios helps with RAM stability.

Thanks a lot matey. :)

Will manually adjust timings and see how it goes. Need to get learning about all of the Intel jargon. Been on AMD for years!:D
