Hi

Was trying to put my old rig together and get rid of it. Unfortunately after spending 3 hours fitting everything nice and neat. The rig turns on with all fans as normal. Activity on DVD rom, HD and GFX

However nothing shows on screen, no BIOS or even a cursor. Monitor remains "no signal" and goes to standby.

Using

Operton
2GB OCZ PC4000
DFI Lanparty Expert
Corsair HX 620

Diagnostic LED is on oxxx
x-light
o-no light

Tried just power on with bare essentials just cpu memory and gfx but still the same. The LED diagnostic light is stuck at CPU detected. Pretty sure it not the gfx card cause i tried 2 different ones and it the same. So narrowed it down to the mobo or cpu. Mobo more likely.

Also tried process of elimination, power on with mobo and just vga with no memory and cpu. I should at the very least see BIOS right?

Any advice would be welcome.

Here are some things you can do:

Try a different monitor.

Try the same monitor on a different PC.

Try a different cable.

Try a different output. (VGA/DVI/HDMI/Display Port)

Is the GPU pushed all the way so the little clip holds it in place?

Have you connected the power connectors?

All of these i already tested cause i am using the monitor now on my main rig with the same cable.

It not the gpu positioning cause i triple checked all the connections and points etc.

Check the RAM it could be faulty. As in try remoing a stick at a time to see if it boots or try another stick altogether.

Thanks for the replies guys

CMOS reset i already tried no difference :(

I tried booting up with only 1 stick on different slots no change. One thing i didnt try If i only hook up cpu and GFX, do you think i would get a display? Or how about nothing installed on mobo but GFX?

CPU connector - I double checked this already as i alraedy got the heat sink spinning etc.

How about completely removing gpu and see if onboard display gets ya going, then it's down to the mobo socket or gpu.

With VGA only, we won't see any display for sure.

we need CPU and RAM.

use the mobo jumper to reset the Bios or remove the mobo battery for few minutes.

Use 1 RAM at a time on different RAM slot.
If there is onboard VGA, try that.

I used to get the code about the CPU not passing the power and stops at CPU diagnosis. So I checked and reseated the CPU, reseat the power cord(including the power connector for the VGA), the PC boots up and working for a whole day.

Hope this works on your PC as well.

Bill

Thanks Bill, Going to try it one last time. The power cord was a stretch but it was securely in last i checked. Going to routed it the directly so it slack and see what happens.

cheers

Try the video card the other slot PCI-e slot.

Is the Video card reciving Power? do the fans spin?

Check the PCI-e power cables are delivering the power. 75w/150w through each 6 or 8 pin auxiliary power connections respectively. You'll need a multi-meter to check this.

Using a 8800GTS so getting power from the PSU as well has the mobo so fans spinning etc. That one thing didnt try is the other PCI-E slot.

cheers

Ok

Tried the GFX card on a different PCI-E slot as well asboth dvi port but still no display.

Reset cmos again and pulled out battery and refitted and still no change :(

Deliberately put the ram on another slot and the diag light hung on VGA detected and never got past the ram. Which is a good sign.

So definitely something to do with the mobo or cpu. Guess i have to find a C2D and new motherboard. Btw i have OCZ PC4000 DDR, i take it if i got a 775 socket board with a C2D should still be able to utilise the ram i got?

Ok thanks - was afraid of that. That means if i opted for C2D would need memory and mobo. Hopefully get a good deal from MM. Should be somebody with old kit lying around.

Manage to get myself a totally different bundle and finish the build yesterday. Still in display :(

CPU: Intel E7300
RAM: 4Gb OCZ DDR2 PC2-6400
Motherboard: abit IP35

Very peculiar thing is it powers on and then off, like most motherboards these days and then it is meant to power on. Instead it continues to power on and off and keeps repeating this :( What i noticed is if i leave the 8 pin connector out and only have 24 pin (it got a molex connectior as well which i connect) it powers on without powering off but still no display? Tried the normal clean cmos and bare components etc

Do you think it could be the psu as that the only common component left?? Never seen a faulty psu give power but not work properly. Sigh :( going to try another psu to rule out the new bundle i got as well. Man I am almost sick of this.......

In the past i had a similar issue with a system that kept cycling on and off continuously and it ended up being faulty motherboard.
