what should i be doing next?

i've got cd that came with mobo and one that came with gtx 460 when should i put them in?

a bullet point list would be great, first build :P

Getting idle cpu temps of 33-34 degrees C (i5 2500k, cooler -hyper 212, 2 fans that came with the haf 912 case) sounds about right? Might have gone bit overboard with the thermal paste : / went for the pea shape on cpu + filing in cracks on hyper 212 method : )

update windows.
get yourself a free antivirus program.
check device manager to see if everything has correct drivers/is working.
get latest drivers for GPU.
load CPU z/GPU z/Hwmonitor etc for monitoring.
Overclock.
enjoy.

Get the latest nvidia drivers for your card and load that.
Check device manager and see what is not installed yet (incase windows has done it all) if any have the yellow exclamation mark then install the drivers needed

if you run windows update, it should point you to downloading the nvidia drivers...if not go look for them and install the nvidia suite...

let the pc cure the thermal paste for a couple of days...then go overclock that baby :D

These days no need to get drivers from the manufacturing website, let the update from Microsoft handle the WHQL drivers.

Security is important, ensure you have an antivirus installed.

Install any other programs you require, and enjoy.

hi thanks for all the help everyone :)

im gonna get prime95 and see how my temps are at load,
Do you use any programs to change the speed of your case fans? or is the only way going into the bios?

my idle temps have already fallen bit (curing of the thermal paste i guess) between 29 and 32 degrees now, core 4 hottest, core 1 coldest

if your looking for load temps, its probably better to stress the graphics card as well as the processor.

i didnt think it would make much difference when i tried 3 cores of prime 95 along with furmark versus just 4 cores of prime 95. however, when it was 3 cores of prime and furmark, my fan speed had to increase by 1000RPM to keep the processor cool enough compared to just 4 cores of prime
