Built the thing but it wont boot off my W7 disk :(

my bets on hard drive

You dont even need a hard drive to boot the windows install CD. My bet is the optical drive isnt reading the windows disk, and therefor its moving on to the next device in line.. the hard drive (which contains no OS yet)

Well the people who bet on the DVD drive playing up were right. I borrowed a USB DVD driver from a colleague and am currently using it to install W7.

It seems I will need to return the optical drive and get a replacement which is really annoying as I hardly ever use the optical drive but its still something I have to do. I have to say that the USB drive is quite slow though...Still better than nothing and MUCH better than fiddling around creating a bootable USB stick.
