Its been a long time since i last posted here (maybe 8-9 years), it was when i build my current pc - Below

(all bought from OCUK back in 2011 ish)
Krypton Z68 TURBO
Intel Core i5 2500K 3.30GHz @ 4.20GHz
TeamGroup Elite Black 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit x2
PC Power & Cooling Silencer Mk II 750W '80 Plus Silver' Power Supply
Adata Premier Pro SP900 128GB 2.5" SATA 6Gbs Solid State Hard Drive (ASP900S3-128GM-C)
Corsair Carbide 500R Midi Tower Case - BlackWhite

A year later i bought my GPU
Gigabyte Radeon R9 280X Rev2.0 WindForce 3X OC 3072MB GDDR5 (replacing 7970)

I have been given the go ahead from the banker (my wife) to build a new rig and have come up with the below, i would appreciate some advice/feedback on if the parts chosen are on point and if ppossible where i may be able to save some ££. (ive been considering keeping my 500r case for example)

The below are sourced from all over, if OCUK have the right ppart at the right price i will obviously want to buy from them.

MSI B450 Tomahawk ATX AM4
AMD - Ryzen 7 2700X 3.7 GHz 8-Core Processor (im looking to get a 3800X when released - this is a place holder essentially)
R1 Universal Dual Tower CPU Heatsink with 140mm Fan - White (maybe Noctua d15 instead?)
Fractal Design Meshify C Mini Dark TG Micro-ATX Case - Black
Team Group Dark Pro " Edition" 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 PC4-28800C16 3600MHz Dual Channel Kit - Black - 8 Pack approved (advised on 3600 freq ram as it is best suited for the 3800X)
1TB Crucial MX500 2.5" SSD / Solid State Drive
Corsair - RMx (2018) 750 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply
EVGA GeForce RTX 2060 XC Black Gaming, 6GB GDDR6, HDB Fan, Graphics Card 06G-P4-2061-KR (i can not decide if 2060 is good enough or if 2070 is actually worth the extra money, or should i go 1070ti??)

Many thanks in advance, all input is appreciated

whats your Monitor res and hz ?

rtx 2060 super and 2070 super out on the 2nd and 9th - reference/aib and then rx 5700 XT and Pro which aims to undercut RTX 2060 and RTX 2070 Standard

Monitor is 2x
Samsung S22F350 22-Inch HDMI LED Monitor - Black
Screen Size 22 inches
Screen Resolution 1920 x 1080 pixels
Maximum Display Resolution 1080p Full HD
Response Time 5 ms
Refresh Rate 60hz

Could you add a new monitor to your budget?

Your new spec kinda overwhelms your monitors - the ideal middle ground being a 27" 1440p 144Hz if mainly used for gaming?

My plan is to build this as a platform as "futureproof" (dirty word) as possible. Once i have enough money some months down the line im planning to look towards a better main screen and gpu. but for now i want a good foundations and the ability to play all my current games.

Will probaly go for something like this as it matches my current ones =)

Sounds like a solid plan.

Personally, i would keep the R9 in your new build and refresh the GPU to a RTX 2070 Super when you have the funds to buy your monitor - or pay the extra on the 2070 Super early and enjoy the FPS knowing that you have a lot extra FPS in your back pocket for when you upgrade your monitor.

I wouldn't buy a standard 2060/2070 with the imminent release of Super especially when coupled with buying a 1440p 144Hz panel in the near future.

@orbitalwalsh will probably have UK price predictions for you for the Supers - but for a general guide the 2070 Super is ~$499, if right makes it a very attractive card with predicted performance.

If you don't have problems with your current case, keeping it would be good way to trim down budget for helping to get approval of the "board".
(or reallocate that money to improve something else)

Seasonic Focus Plus Gold is £20 cheaper, or you can just up efficiency notch to 80+ Platinum for same price.

If you're not going to overclock, or what can be gotten without much of voltage increase, then Scythe Mugen 5 would be step behind best for very wallet friendly £43.

It would be also good for 12 core 3900X.

For SSD remember to check also WD Blue 3D.

As for graphics card you could get Vega 64 for same price.
Though best would be to wait little for new graphics cards.

So aside from holding out for super 2070 and screen ata later date, can you see any possible issues with my build spec?
Personally, i would bump up to the Pro Carbon (definitely if you needed WiFi?) - it has marginally better VRM/Cooling all helps with Zen 2, bluetooth and better audio.

Agree, with @EsaT with PSU plus we both sing from the same hymn sheet re: Scythe Mugen - but appreciate you may have aesthetics in mind (Dark Rock Pro 4 is a solid choice too - for looks and ability)

WD blue is cheaper - but no opinion other than that.

Ok so grand plan is as follows. I have been trying to keep my proposed costs at no more than £1000. With a £450 GPU and £400 ish CPU that was almost impossible.

So for now i will build everything above but retain the R9 280X i have until black friday sales and see what i can get then =) (wifes idea, not mine - there is a reason she is the banker and not me)

MSI B450 Tomahawk ATX AM4 £89.99
AMD - Ryzen 3800X £383.00
R1 Universal Dual Tower CPU Heatsink with 140mm Fan - White £74.99
Fractal Design Meshify C Mini Dark TG Micro-ATX Case - Black £79.99
Team Group Dark Pro " Edition" 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 PC4-28800C16 3600MHz Dual Channel Kit - Black - 8 Pack approved £149.99
1TB Crucial MX500 2.5" SSD / Solid State Drive £104.75
Corsair - RMx (2018) 750 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply £94.00

£976.71

This also gives a little flexibility on PSU/Board if i find better deals(i will look into the recomended PSU's above)

Thanks all for your input. I will check back here to see if anyone has any other ideas.

Why would you get a 2070 when the 5700xt is faster and cheaper, and it lets you get a freesync monitor?
If i am very honest. I used to have Nvidia cards, 8500gt 8800gtx's etx. I put them through a whole world of sh!t (overclocking the balls off them with direct 12v fans stuck all over them etc) they never skipped a beat.

The R9 280x i have , i have had nothing but problems, its a factory OC card and i have had to reduce the clock and memory speeds to get it to be stable and stop throttling. I removed the cooler and replaced the thermal pads /paste and got the temps a little better but its still not what i would expect from a brand new out of the box (arguably top end ) card.

I am not going near another AMD GPU for a while (or atleast until a bad experience with Nvidia makes me think the grass is greener with AMD)
