Every few weeks I need to process around 100 - 200 images into two different sizes for a website. Up until now, I've been using the straight forward image processor built into Photoshop.

What I need, however, is if the image doesn't fit into the size, and it has to be resized smaller on one axis for the remainder of the 'canvas' to be filled with a colour, i.e. black? Is this possible in Photoshop, or any other software?

Many Thanks

Yep, look up a guide on how to make actions, it's pretty easy.

i.e. if you want to have all your pics at 1200x800 pixels (portrait shots would be 1200x800 but with black bars down the side) your steps would be:

resize to 800 pixels vertically

increase canvas size to 1200x800 with black as background colour

save+close

You can then go file>automate>batch process and pick the action you just created.
