Bulldog ADSL 2+ rollout April

im 2387m cable distance from the exchange...according to the bully engineer but 1.35km straight line :(.

I will be going with BD from around the 21st of this month. I may just give them a call tomorrow to ask if I should just wait until this has been rolled out so that I can see what the benefits are going to be for me :D
Out of interest, just what are the benefits of adsl2+ :o

main ones are greater upload and download speeds ( 1.3mbit up, 24mbit down) this varies depending on your line length and statistics. Give me your line info and ill try to give you a rough estimate of what speed you will get on normal 8mb and 24mb

900 metres away and my synch speed was 18.5mb but that was unstable so had to be syched at 14.9mb.

This is with another adsl 2+ supplier but gives you an idea.

4.7 gig dvd iso image in 50 mins.....mmmmmmmmmmmm

what's the difference between 8mb inter@ctive and 8mb unlimited?

i'm on 8mb inter@ctive at the mo, cant tell the difference apart from £10 more a month

Are they gonna be providing adsl2 on just there LLU exhanges I assume?

Yep, LLU exchanges only. I hear they are upgrading new exchanges to LLU soon enough though.

What info is it that your looking for gam3r

Go into your modem/router settings or software and look for these stats:

Downstream rate
Upstream rate
downstream margin
up stream magin
down attenuation
up attenuation

They may not be exactly worded the same as the ones i have mentioned but they are more a less the same.

Living around 800 yards from the exchange... woot! :D

Doesnt matter mate.

What matters is the length of your PHONE LINE and what its made of, not the distance from your house to the exchange.

For example I live 2.8KM from my exchange and have a attenuation that equals a line over doulble length. Some of the line is aluminium, so I get a really bad broadand line.

My mate, on the same exchange, can throw a stone and hit the exchange from his back garden - a BT engineer says his line is 2.6km.

The ONLY way you can tell how good your line is, is by getting it adsl enabled and taking attenuation/SNR readings.

Logic would assume the unlimited is unlimited, and the interactive is not unlimited....

For bulldog to provide you with an internet connection, you have to be on a LLU exchange. It doesnt matter what technology they use to send your signal.

Also hope you are aware its adsl2+, not adsl2, that bulldog are rolling out.

your downstream&upstream margin(SNR) is nice. Every 2mb speed increase, you loose 6-8db.

But the bad thing there is that your attenuation is very high at 54db, suggesting your line length is very long. Probably are 5km or so. This means on bully's 8mb product you would get about 4mb down and 576 up. Pushing it, with a decent router you may be able to get 5-6mb.

Not quite. For one, it isn't anywhere near as linear as that.
As a (crude) guess, MrSaffron's calculator (which is in the FAQ, you did read that, right? ;)) reckons
A crude estimate of what your line is capable of is 8192kbps (kilo bits per second).

The answer's a lemon, suck it and see. Only way to find out for sure is try it.

No you don't. A friend of mine in Lancaster has 2Mbit from Bulldog and they've barely got electricity, let alone LLU up there. They can provide bog standard ADSL over any BT line.
