Bulldog internet connection all over the place...

I'm currently on the 8mb Bulldog package and up until recently I've (pretty much) always got a solid 6.5-7.0mb connection!

The trouble is the connection speed now seems to be all over the place - one minute its fine and firing at 6.5mb (maxing out at just under 800kb/sec) and the next its dropped to less than a meg!! (struggling to get 100 kb/sec)

I'm still using the same equipment, a Linksys WAG54GS router and wireless USB connection.

The only thing I can point to is I've just had a new kitchen, which is where the master socket is - could this be the problem if its been disturbed?? (although it all seems pretty well secure!?!)

The main wire comes in through the window frame and into a small oval BT box that I'm told is the master socket (albeit an old one!) and then is hardwired into a socket in the kitchen and also seperately hardwired back outside, up the wall and into one of the bedrooms. (microfilters in both!)

Does anyone know if I'll be able to get Bulldog to replace the age-old oval "box" and install a brand spanking new one???

Are you on LLU service? if so yes, if not then you'll have to get BT to replace it. Though beware: unless you can prove the box is faulty then it'll be a chargable callout. This is usually steeply priced. I think BT is about £150 callout.

I'm sure it is LLU - although since I have my phone line through Bulldog - dont they have to sort it themselves (or at least get BT to sort it??)

Surely the fluctuation in speed is good enough to prove there is a fault??

Doesn't prove it's the box though. You'd have to get an engineer out to assess it before they'd do that. They don't go round giving away freebies.

Now I'm really confused!!! :confused:

Through my wireless I am getting 60-100kb/sec on the Bulldog speedtest but when I connect via an ethernet cable, I'm back up to near 700kb/sec!!!!

I've checked my signal strength and it says it excellent!!

Could it be the wireless USB adaptor only? Is there any way to check the speed on my PS3 connection??

*edit* just tried speedtest.net on my PS3 browser and it struggled to get over 1mb while the same test on my PC whilst connected via the ethernet cable registers around 5.5mb!!!

Does this mean my wireless is knackered on my router???
