Ive only managed to read a few snippets about AMDs new CPUs and all this talk of them being come sort of CPU/GPU hybrid confuses me. Are they actually talking about not needing a gfx card anymore or am i being a complete moron?

The integrated gpu's will be fine for general use, extremely light gaming, think of them as like the onboard motherboard stlye ones, but just inside the cpu, they are aimed at HD video play back, and light gaming.

But for proper gaming you would still want a decent gfx. So it would really all depend on if you game or not, if u don't, then no u won't need a gfx card.

Well newer fabrication processes, so cooler running cpu's, intel have had 32nm ones about for abit, but bulldozer will be AMD's first move into 32nm.

Basically think of it as progression, its just the next thing in the line really.

Yeah, people really shouldnt be expecting huge performance increases either.....

Everything i've read so far seems to indicate that they will only be as fast as the i7's are now, clock for clock...maybe slightly ahead.

Basically AMD are about to catch up with Intel.....until they launch Sandybridge, when the 10-15% speed advantage , clock for clock, will be back in Intel's favour...

The only reason im interested in them is because the new Mobo socket that will be required should be good for the next few years...

I was kinda hoping this CPU/GPU thing was gonna be a lil more exiting than that, obviously not a direct replacement for Gfx cards but maybe some new tech that makes your CPU and gfx card work together better. The release of the 6000 series and the new CPUs are close enough that i thought they might have something interesting up there sleeves.

Im lookin to buy a whole new rig by the end of the year, was wondering if its worth waiting on bulldog at all mostly.

Lmao i just noticed i put bulldog, wtf ahwell edited now, silly mistake by me, dunno why i was thinking bulldog for, as i know thats not one of the code names, weird. *puts it down to sleepyness*

IMO Bobcat is the one to watch - aimed squarely at Atom price wise, substantially faster and decent onboard gpu. Will make netbooks a whole lot more useful if anything

these new fusion gpus are about on par (maybe a tad faster) with current 5400 series if im not mistaken. So should be a fiar step up in terms of igpu, but the 780G when first released was about on par with the 3400 series. Like bifday said, progression.

on the cpu front, i have got completely lost as to whats what now (ontario, llano, bobcat, bulldozer, zacarte or whatever its called). So im sitting back until these products actually materialize before trying to get my head around them. im taking a similar approach with the radeon 6xxx as well.

As a gamer a new generation of GFX cards is infinitely more exiting to me, was just a little unclear on what this new fusion technology was actually supposed to be. If its just a second integrated gpu that i wont ever care to use then im not to exited and any worry about waiting for bulldozer before i buy my new rig is soothed, will go for Phenom 2. Will be watching the 6000 series carefully tho.
