Hi im new to the forum but i have just been given a unused Bulldozer FX-8 8150 processor. I have not done a build in 5 years and a few things have moved on.

firstly I was wondering should I use this or sell it and go for an Intel CPU?
Also does anyone have a spec based around this CPU for 500 Pounds?
The key things I would like is the ability to upgrade everything aswell as the graphics so a full ATX or extended ATX MOBO would be good.

I am a naval architect and so have to run multiple CAD, Rendering and photo editing so need as much RAM as possible.

I have things like Optical drives, Keyboard, mouse and monitors. I have a few 250GB hard drives for the build but would like a 500GB or 1TB drive if this could be squeezed in

Thanks for the help guys

most people will say sell it but from things i have read about it they are quite good andclock really well:

Cheers for your reply Pohly.

Looked at the spec and looks perfect but need to get windows 7 aswell so thought about dropping the Graphics card to save money any views on this?

EVGA GeForce GTX 550Ti 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £139.99

also i havnt over clocked before but know roughly how to is it easy on the MSI boards?

That seems expensive for a 550ti, a GTX560ti is currently £150 even if you dont game it makes sense toi get the faster card with higher number of CUDA cores if any applications you use can benefit from CUDA.

Even a GTX560 is £139

The 2GB vs 1Gb isnt any concern for your usage.

Since you've got the FX8150 for free, I'd say to keep it and go for an AM3+ build.
Personally, I'd change to a 2500k, but for yourself, the FX8150 should/may be faster than the 2500k.

no need for the 850w psu either, something like

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-147-AN&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat= is enough

get 2x the ram as you'll benefit from the 16gb(or am I wrong about this?).

the ram etc with the *black friday*thing next to them end tomorrow morning so get the order in tonight.

i put the 850w in the build because the op said he want somthing he could upgrade in the futrue so the 850 would allow him to slot in another 6950

and 16gb of ram is overkill even 8gb is a lot

i was planning to install 16GB of ram as it is relatively cheap to do. and i think the 850 watt would be good as i would eventually end up with dual graphics cards.

I can get product keys for 32 bit XP Profesional if i installed this would i be able to use the windows 7 64 upgrade without any adverse effects?
