Bulldozer? or i5?

this could potentially become the longest thread :p

1) if upgrade is urgent, go with SB - proven to be fantstic

2) if upgrade is not urgent, wait and compare :)

I dont want to start a feud, i really have no lcue on what to do, the reason im here is because you guys really know your stuff, if im gonna build a pc, i want your advice.

As you already have a pc/laptop, I think you should wait and see how things turn out when Bulldozer is released.

i5 2500K in my opinion is currently the best bang for buck processor with excellent performance.

However Bulldozer is also being released with 8 cores chips if you are into heavily multi-threaded tasks.

Then Ivy Bidge which is die shrink of sandy bridge is also being released in couple of months time if I am correct.

So if you urgently need a new PC, go with i5 2500K. If not wait for 2/3 months and see how things turn out. By then you will have more option.

Ivy bridge will probably be out before bulldozer lol
TBH your not going to go far wrong with the i5 2500k, even though AMD "may" be releasing BD sometime in the next decade, I have a feeling its not going to be the all singing and all dancing cpu people are hoping it will be :(

If and when bulldozer surfaces I think it might have missed the boat.
It needs to be out now, not some time next quarter or the next or the next.

if you care about performance & features then forget about AMD,this is what i'm planning on doing anyway,i will get i5 2500k + z68 ud3p + 4GB ram in the next few days, then sit & watch comfortably how the cpu market advances in the next 12 months & upgrade to 8 or 12 core ivy bridge when time is right.

if i want to wait longer i can because i know i have a system (i5 2500k) good enough to last me 2-3 years. :)

Unless you're desperate, it'd be foolish not to wait a few weeks for benchmarks and final specs to surface for Bulldozer.

Sandy Bridge is good, but no extraordinary leap over the previous gen.

Ivy Bridge is March / April, so still a long time off.

BD is closeish so at this point i would wait and compare you have nothing to lose really. I5 is proven and is a very good cpu for just about everything so unless you do stuff that requires more cores then if you cannot wait you'll be happy with an i5.

Not sure I'd call Bulldozer's August-September release is "close-ish", but I'm sure we'll get some more information about the chip's performance in a not too distant future.

If you need a PC go for the i5 2500k. I assembled my new i5 2500k rig a couple weeks back and no regrets. This is technology so you can always get "better" this or that if you wait.
