Bundle building, PCIE lane query

So, im thinking of bundling the following together:
  • i7-7700k
  • Asus ROG Strix Z270i m-itx
  • GTX 1080
Now this mobo has 2 x m.2 pcix4 slots which i'd like to use as i have 2 x 1tb m.2 drives.
However the i7-7700k only has 16 pcie lanes which the GTX 1080 will use up.
Do m.2 drives use the Z270 chipset lanes on the mobo instead. If so, then i should be ok(?)
Struggling to find a definitive answer.
What i don't want is any of m.2 drives to be throttled back due to lack of pcie lanes.

Any advice appreciated.

The board (chipset) essentially has 8 lanes built in, so if you were running a 7700K, in total you would have 24 PCIE 3.0 lanes.

(I have this board in a second machine, both with NVME drives in it)

The port on the back of the board is PCIE only, the one on the front, with the brilliant heat sink is PCIE and SATA.

Hi HB,
bit of a revival, but what ram do you use or recommend for the Asus ROG Strix Z270i board please? l'll be going for 16gb (2x8).
Cheers :)
