Bundle Upgrade

Hi everyone
i am going to upgrade my system which is getting a bit old now which comprises of
nzxt phantom case
asus p5nt-t delue motherboard
quad q9300 cpu
2 x asus ENGTX460 DirectCU TOP/2DI/768MD5 sli
8gb kingston hyper x ram
Antec TruePower Quattro 850W Power Supply
WD Caviar Black 1 TB Hard drive

i was thinking of getting the Super Nova X79 850i Intel Core i7 3820 3.60GHz @ 4.40GHz DDR3 Overclocked Bundle(Asus P9X79 DELUXE Intel X79), with a Samsung 256GB SSD 830 Desktop Series.
my worry is that my psu is not good enouth and should i upgrade psu to a 1000w plus psu, also will my graphic cards be ok to fit on the asus p9x79, any advise will be appreciated

Your PSU will be fine. More than fine actually.

The P9X79 supports SLI/Xfire so yup your cards will be fine too.

nice to know i wont need a bigger psu this means i can spend the money on someting else maybe a second ssd. (offtopic do you know if setting up 2 ssd in a raid 0 will offer any benefits) thanks again

Raid 0 obviously has speed advantages but, and someone may correct me on this, you'll lose TRIM.

850watt is still powerful, I opened a hp pre build core i7 pc and it had a 350watter in it today lol

I went on a online psu calculater and put all my hardware in and it told me I needed a 1700w psu, I must have done something wrong

yeh my system with 2 * gtx 570's 2 SSD's blu ray + dvd drive + about 10 LED fans and a full watercooling loop only goes to 650W.

850W is overkill still unless your gonna xfire / SLI summing like 690's.

You will lose TRIM with RAID 0 on SSD's but its not a big issue. They have their own garbage management anyway.

As said earlier, the 850W Quattro PSU will be fine with your set up

Don't believe the online PSU calc, they are way over the top, they just add and add wattages.

Thanks eyeryone, im going to order this next week as ive got some time off, has anyone got any advise on how to install this trouble free, im going to install to ssd drive, ive Created bootable USB drive for Windows 7 x64 and also put the intel RST drivers on there which i got from asus site. i have read and printed a guide on how to install the raid drivers it basically tells me to do this even if i dont plan on using raid, i havent decided yet.
3. Installing: Press F8 and Boot from USB, select 'Install now ->'
A. Select Custom (Advanced)
B. Click on Load Driver, Browse RAID drivers from 'RAID' folder; examples:
'Flash Drive':\...RSTe_V300xxxx_XPWin7\RSTe_V300xxxx_XPWin 7\Driver\Disk\64bit\iaStorA.inf
'Flash Drive':\...RSTe_3.0.0.xxxx_F6-Drivers\RSTe_f6_iaStorA_64\iaStorA.inf
C. Delete any partitions, and reformat
D. Install Windows
E. Finish Windows installation
F. Once in Windows: Install Chipset, Intel RST software/Drivers, and the remainder drivers.
hopefully this will be all i need to do, but correct me if im wrong

You shouldn't need the RAID drivers to detect the SSD, it will show up in the install config like any other drive.

Unless you have gone for a crazy SSD like a Revodrive

i read that its better to install it even if you dont use it on the x79, then ive always got that option outherwise whould have to do a reinstall of the os.

Revodrive, isnt that a bit like the ASUS SSD Caching, uses a hdd and ssd for 3X faster performance, having never had a ssd drive im not clued up on it, im thinking should i install to hdd and get a small ssd say 60gb, or still install to a single ssd, and also get a small ssd and use with my old hdd for using ASUS SSD Caching :confused:

I would do the install without it to start, no point over complicating the whole process.

The revo drive, is basically 2 SSD nands soldered onto a PCI board and bridged using internal RAID0 to form one drive.

The Revo X2 is basically this but x2.

Then there are the revo models with HDDs integrated too.

They are more complicated to install.
