Hello, My brother is looking at getting a new motherboard and CPU but he can't decided whether to get one of the overclocked Intel bundles or to buy the parts separate.

He's got a budget of around £400 and he's come up with this so far;

Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail £159.98
(£133.32)
Asus P67 Sabertooth Intel P67 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard ** B3 REVISION ** £139.99
(£116.66)
Corsair Hydro H80 High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775/LGA1155/LGA1156/LGA1366/LGA2011/AM2/AM3) £79.99
(£66.66)
Sub Total : £316.64
Shipping cost assumes delivery to UK Mainland with:
DPD Next Day Parcel
(This can be changed during checkout) Shipping : £9.50
VAT is being charged at 20.00% VAT : £65.23
Total : £391.37

But he's not sure whether to go for that or choose the overclocked bundle (Which ever is best for budget)

Thanks :D :)

The bundles are the same as what you would buy separately, just with the OC already done for you, it really depends on if you are confident or willing to do the OC yourself to save some money, as it really isn't too hard to do and you should be guaranteed to hit the speeds the bundles are at.

I think he's looking at going for the separate items as then he can choose whether he wants to OC and its also a better Motherboard and cooler

If it's the same money and the same warranty then it would make sense to go for the pre-clocked set I suppose. More bang for your buck for zero effort.

Hello,

My brother has started looking again and he's wondering what people think of his proposed items that he wants to buy.

Bundled;

Krypton Z68 600i Intel Core i5 2500K 3.30GHz @ 4.60GHz Overclocked Bundle + FREE RED FACTION: ARMAGEDDON GAME - With everything on top spec

+

Corsair Hydro H80 High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler

Total: £553.97

OR

Single components;

Intel Core i7-2600K 3.40GHz (Sandybridge)

+

Asrock Z68 Extreme4 Intel Z68

+

Corsair Hydro H80 High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler

+

Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB (2x4GB)

Total: £520.96

All help is much appreciated :) :D

does he use any programs that'll make use of the hyper threading or does he do lots of video encoding etc? if not then save £70-£80 and get the i2500k, use the saving from that to get the extreme4 gen3.

p.s. I guess the ram he currently has not upto standard?
