Bundles And New Builds - A Couple Of Questions

Rebuild/refurb time is just around the corner again and after my abortive attempt earlier in the year was looking at a couple of options. First question relates to "bundles". Can anyone either a customer or a tech from OCUK confirm how pre-assembled these are? The description on the catalogue pages is somewhat vague on the issue and some reviews are referring to attaching the fan or messing about with backplates. The attraction (to me) of the bundle is that the mobo, CPU, RAM and fan are already assembled, if the upgrade is truly plug and play. Also why no option to have the bundle but at stock speeds? The reviews are scattered wth reports of the o/c not working or causing problems on arrival anyway.

Systems - why is there not a wider range of graphics cards for the gaming systems? I would be quite content with a Nvidia 560 card which combined with an I5/2500 and 8Gb of RAM is still going to knock the spots off my current set up. However the cheapest Nvidia card is the 660, over £200 i.e. nearly £100 more than the 560. That would make all the difference between an affordable £750 and putting the price over the £800 mark. In actual fact it's not just OCUK who do this, checking a couple of other custom build suppliers they do the same but it seems to me there ought to be a middle ground between the £400 dirt cheap office machines and the £800 and upwards gaming rigs.

Good morning,

If it is bundles as regards to these:

You will receive the motherboard, processor, memory and cooler, and we will overclock as stated on the product description to what ever it says and it will be covered with warranty. When receiving it, the memory and the processor will be left in the motherboard so you just need to attach the cooler.

If you wanted the bundle at stock speeds, then it maybe worth buying the parts separately, may work out cheaper.

As for the systems, they are all available to tweak to how you want it, if you order via phone we can make the amendments.

The reason with wider range of graphics cards, well, with the thousands of products we have on our website there would be billions of different combinations of systems, and I don't think customers would like to browse through that many.

So if there is a system there you like and want to make changes, just order via phone and we can do it for you. :)

In the case of air coolers, it is best not to install it. Because of the weight of some of the coolers, it could cause damage to the mobo in transit. In regards the bundles, i assume it is because of packaging. Due to it`s shape, would properly cost more to protect the bundle from damage. Makes more sense to pack the items in the boxes they came in and pack them together in a larger box.
There are overclocked bundles to choose from. If for some reason there is a problem with the OC, it is easily sorted with a little help from OCUK support.
