Burglar Alarm Problem

Our house already had an alarm fitted when we bought it. Never had any documentation for it, just the code.

I have replaced one of the PIR units, and everything was fine. another sensor frequently errors ( blinking red light) so i have been opening it up and resetting it by taking the wire marked + out waiting a few seconds and re-applying it, it seemed to work for a few months before needing doing again.

I was doing it the other day and i think i may have shorted something, and now the entire system is dead, keypad no longer lights up door chimes stopped, everything is dead apart from the lights on the bell box, which i assume is on a different circuit. I have tried pressing all buttons on the keypad, switching off the fuse on the fuse board ( its wired in to the light circuit).

I'm weary of tampering any further as i don't have any ladders to disconnect the battery in the bell box if the alarm decides to start screaming.

Is there anything else i can try before i get some one in?

The key pad is a Pyronix sterling (can't find the documentation on the web)

Would it be worth getting a new system fitted? what would the likely cost be?

Thanks

GM

I don't know if you have made a spelling mistake or not but I put Pyronix Sterling in google and got pages up for Pyronix.

This is just one http://titaniumsecurity.co.uk/download/Pyronix Sterling Compact.pdf Edit !! try this http://www.tpps.co.uk/Pdfs/Sterling 10.pdf

I would hazard a guess you have blown the fuse when working on PIR - take front cover off panel and have a look - trouble is it might set alarm off but you have the code but do you have engineers number -- If the above link is correct you can look for reset function -- Mine I have to remove two wires and loop the terminals to return panel to factory settings.

If you have a logical mind then replacing it yourself is quite easy - just buy a new one from an electrical contractor outlet. :)

Hi Dx, i made a typo! fixed now.

that's the thing i don't have engineers code, its been without power (to the keypad, not sure if the power/fuse has gone to the control board) for about a week. And i don't have the means to reset the bell box if it goes off.

Have not looked it up - but if power to control board had gone (do you have that in the loft ? I did with a scantronic) then would have thought bell box would have gone off.
(and even with a set of ladders/ear-defenders/lump-hammer might take some stopping)
if control box is now on a battery then when that runs down bell box might sound.

Control board/box may have anti-tamper but you will need to find reset function as dxp55 says, but if you do not then have a keypad to interact with it after reset and temporarily decomission the bell box could be a problem.

Does seem a bit daft if pir's are on a circuit with fuse where they have possibility to take-out the power to the keyboard though ... but maybe manual explains that .

until i figured out how to do a reset myself companies wanted immediately £150+ to sort it for me, so worth several hours of reading manuals and asking questions on alarm forums.
