To die by your side......
After reading this i wondered how a computer forum would vote, so if the decision was put to public vote, how would you vote?

Those that don't mind having their opinions on the matter known by all then please have a good open debate about it.

I am in two minds about it, one where i would ban it, mainly because i don't like it, but then i also agree that banning what is essentially a clothing item is a bit trivial, but then i also think it is unfair that motorcyclists HAVE to take their helmets off in most shops, which, when lid up, actually offer more face than a burka.

Also remember burka's are not strictly religious, but cultural.

Could a mod make an anonymous poll with 'Ban the Burka' 'Allow the Burka' 'Not ban, but get more strict' 'Wouldn't vote' as options. Taa

No it shouldn't be banned, but those wearing it should be forced to adhere to policies for items like crash helemts and balaclavas in places like banks ,etc.

In today's realities regarding security and terrorism we simply cannot tolerate people obscuring their faces in public places for the sake of failed multi-cultural ideals. There have been enough incidents of males attempting crimes or fleeing through ports whilst wearing a burkha to warrant a ban in public.

I agree with that. They should also be compelled to remove their head scarves at security checkpoints or be denied access if they refuse. Employers should also have the right to suspend/sack employees that refuse to adhere to any dress code (the same goes for schools).

Well that has nothing to do with law, it's shop policy. If a shop wanted to ban the burka as well, they could.

I agree with this as well, banning them outright would be utterly stupid but let's apply some common sense to the situation.

Should be treated the same as a balaclava or helmet or hoody tbh.

If a shop owner wants it off either take it off or leave.

I'd vote against an outright ban - people are free to wear what they choose. I'd make exceptions for places where view of the face is necessary.

But Schools Secretary Ed Balls said it was "not British" to tell people what to wear in the street
I almost choked when I read that. A Labour cabinet member against telling people what to do, what next?

Mmmmm....now let me think.....not so long back didn't a terrorist flee the country via an airport wearing a burka and using his sisters passport???

Ban them

I read the title and for a few seconds wondered whether Burka Ban was a cartoon character from The Beano.

No, people wearing them just need to be refused entry to certain places, IE airports and ports, or anywhere else where security is important.

Certainly not banned, however as people have said, they shiould be required to remove them in certain places (nanks, airports etc).

However they should be banned while driving or operating any vehicle.
