I am currently using Nero 7 to burn a .avi file to DVD and it burns in real time, so sometimes it can take about 1.5hrs to copy. The .avi file size is roughly 700MB and when I add the file to be burnt in Nero, it takes up nearly 3.5GB...anyone explain this for me please?
Is there anyway it can be burnt quicker so it still plays on a standard DVD player?

Thanks

it needs to be converted to mpeg2 (dvd format) before it's burned to the disc

convertxtodvd probably does it faster than nero

it's not a simple 'copy to dvd' as a file, it has to be converted first for the dvd player to be able to understand the codec :)

You should be able to reduce it's quality in Nero Vision (assuming you are using that) to get it smaller, but you seriously risk destroying it's video quality. It's so big originally because as the chap above says - it's got to convert it to mpeg2.
