Burnt out AMD athlon will the M/B be dead?

Well I just cooked my first processor. Was building an ftp server with an old athlon 1700+ that I aquired and i didn't realise how hot these things got and I didn't put a powerful enough fan on the heatsink!!!

Anyway will the processor melting have damaged the motherboard or can I just go get another processor?

its pot luck whether the board was taken out as well or not

bu**er!!!!! is there any way of testing without getting another processor?

well, you can try booting the board without a cpu. if it beeps and makes funny noises at you then chances are it might be ok lol.

Well it powers on but it doesnt make any noises I didnt really want to end up spending money on this either!!!

Buy the cheapest Duron/Athlon off the bay for about £6?

There happens to be one in the members market i'm going to get. Think i'll get a better heatsink for the damn thing too!!
