Hi guy’s. I’ve got a major graphics card problem and I would like some advice please on what, if anything, can be done to raise this dead thing from the ashes. I bought an ati sapphire 1650 pro card in June of this year and all was going great. I know it’s not the greatest card but my games played like a dream and I was happy (can I just say here that I’m on a low income and I haven’t got unlimited funds. thanks) On an off I’d been playing a game called Call of Juarez and was up to level four. One night I came off my pc and went into the living room to watch some tv. On returning there was a faint burning smell in the room, not major but almost as if you’d left an iron on. I smelt around the back and switched the machine off. I took the cover off and gently vacuumed out any dust that might have been the cause. The next day everything seemed fine. My game worked and so I thought it had just been a one off. However, after a few days things started to get odd again. Another faint smell of burning, but the game was fine. Then on another occasion after about half an hour playing a few lines flickered across the screen. This became violently worse forcing the game to stop and leaving only a pale grey lined screen. I rebooted the pc and it played little games, things like Zuma or Diner Dash that the kids were on but not my game. This didn’t last. After a few days the pc was having trouble just starting so I took it to a pc repair man. He identified it was the graphics card but that there was not visible evidence of anything that looked burnt or scorched. He said he’d had to put one he had just to get it to boot up. Time to send it back I thought or at least get some advice. Now my next problem. I was bought from a company called Shopmagenta. I go on the net and no page loads up. I do a search for them and find they’ve gone into liquidation. Oh joy. So guy’s is this card toast or can it be rescued or maybe repaired?

This card is as is. I has not been altered in any way from standard. I am running xp pro 1gb memory 2000+ amd processor 160gb hd.

I’m so sorry this is such a long letter. Any help would be much appreciated.

i've just been searching these forums for what people have to say about sapphire rmas - my x1950pro went kaput yesterday after running perfectly for 7 months. from what i can gather it can take several weeks when dealing with sapphire direct. :(

i got my card from ocuk so i'm hoping they'll sort mine out a bit quicker than that. :p

in the meantime my only backup card is a gf4 mx4000. feel the POWER. :D
