Burnt Ram

Don't know what I did, think I might not have pushed one side of the stick in far enough. Switched PC on and it wouldnt start. So opened up tower took out Ram stick smelt a bit funny. On one end on one of the connectors, one of the metal slivers along the edge was black. Sure enough in the same spot on the mobo ram slot was a small blackish mark on the plastic edge. Guess the points betweent ram stick and ram slot wernt connected well and a small spark burnt the connector on the ram stick. oops.

Anyhows wanting to know the chances that the ram slot itself with the small blackish mark on the plastic edge of slot, if this will now be dud. Thinking hopefully the blackish mark on the plastic outer edge of the slot itself is just smokey type stuff from the spark, and the connector inside the slot is fine. Wondering if its worth trying a different stick in the slot, or the chances that something might happen?

Any one have any ideas whether the slot itself now damages and likely to damage a stick if I tried another stick!?

Clean the stick and slot with some IPA and see how it looks.

Yeah I can clean slot theres no black marks left, looks just like the other slot, like nothings wrong with it. Would people even bother trying to puting another stick in it, or what are the chances ive damaged the slot and this would damage any other sticks i put in?

If it looks clean then I'd be tempted to populate the slot but only if you really need to. Does the stick still work?

Nah the stick got fried, was a new 2gb stick. Tried it in another comp didn't work, and then in a friends didn't work. I was installing it 5 mins after waking up on my day off, posty came early and I was exited!
