"burst" pixel, Dell Warranty?

First, correct me if I am wrong.......

A "dead" pixel typically shows as a single rectangular area which is either off, or displays a random colour (presumably from light bleeding from adjacent cells).

What my Inspiron has, is different. There is a small black dot, comma shaped and about 2mm in lenght near the bottom of my screen. This doesn't look like any dead pixel I have seen before. It looks for all the world like a cell has gone pop and leaked liquid crystal. Another weird symptom is.....well you know, if you touch some LCD screens, you can see waves or ripples running through the LC....well if I tap or touch the screen anywhere at all, this little "comma" has "waves" radiating from it, like a rock in a pond.

Is this just how pixels die now (though it's more than one), or is there something more serious wrong.

Also, my Dell documentation is WELL burried somewhere. Although I think the machine only had a 12 month warranty on it, my bro is convinced the screens are guaranteed for 2 or 3 years, and that this problem involves enough pixels to justify RMA.
Any ideas?

Yes it does look a little like that. Has very sharply defined edges, but then that's a fairly dodgy pic.

It would explain why it causes ripples too I think. Wonder if I can move it out of the way, will have to read up on it if there's anything to read.

Meanwhile, a look at fleabay for replacement screens and OCUK's laptop emporium just in case.

first of all check the system warranty at support.euro.dell.com and enter your service tag.

as for the screen if you tell dell there is liquid leaking it won't be covered as they will class it as user damage.

Well.it's definitely not user damage. It's was fine, it went in it's bag, it came out,it had the spot.
It's neither here nor there anyway as I checked as per your suggestion, and it's RIGHT out of warranty.

Which leaves me with buying a new screen for £120 quid (Yeah RIGHT!)

So practical options are.........

Deal with it
or
New lapper.

It's only an inspiron 1300, but with Gentoo on it, it's more than fast enough for my needs (video, audio, web, silly games).
I suppose I'll just try and ignore it for as long as I can.
