Hi all,

well i bought some items of clothing the other day from the store "burtons" as i arrived at the checkout he asked me if i would like a store card, i thought wow ok cool neat idea, i hadn't a clue what he had just signed me up to, he made a quick call, and said i have to come in when my card comes in and pay it off i tried asking him the ins and outs, and he'd just mumble under his breath.

i left the shop not knowing a clue, i went home and read the paperwork he had given me, and what an absolute joke, has anybody used this card before? and is it pretty much safe to pay it off and bin it?

p.s- think what made it worse is they didnt even ask my financial status or anything, but all they were doing is cashing in, which is i suppose what there employed to do.

It's just a store card. Perfectly safe just make sure you pay it off as soon as the bill comes in. With Burtons, IIRC, you can either send back a GIRO cheque or go into the shop to pay it off.

I got one to save a fiver a few years back

I paid the balance asap and never used the card again

haha you shop at burtons.... i dislike it very much so.

when i walk round my home town up north, every one walks round with the same clothes, all from burtons, very sad actually.

i would personally say all store cards are carp

nice selection of affordable jeans in burtons.

Why did you sign up for something which you didn't understand?

i thought it was just like a card which you pay so much for, then you get like burtons membership discount, how wrong was i, i tried asking him as i said he mumbled a load of tosh.

You're 20 years old and don't know that store cards are one of the most evil money sucking things you can sign up to?

You deserve the ripping off you're likely to receive

there are many shops which do the same, and are not as generic as burtons....

just from my experience though, its a pain in the bum when you buy a nice T and jeans walk down the road and 3 other ppl are wearing it, thus i never shop there

WTF? As long as you not retarded they are good, most offer discounts or exclusive offers. If you can handle money (credit wise) and dont need natwests "moneysense" help then its not evil or money sucking!

Odd person!

i dont see it as a problem as long as i dont leave the bill too long and pay it off as soon as i get it.

Yeah, I have a Burtons card. Used it to knock about £20 off my bill. Waited for my first statement in the post, paid over the phone using the automated service. Card never used again.

A word of warning though, when signing up, if mobile phone is optional, decline giving your number. I did that with a store card from another retailer and got spammed. In fact, I actually recieved a telemarketing call on my landline number (which you have to provide) after taking out the Burton's card, but since it was (touch wood) a one off, I haven't really thought much of it.
