Bus speed overclocking

Hello there im on the x79 platform and have an i7 3820 which has a limited multiplie which is 43x max. So i was wondering to get around 4.5ghz overclock is it safe to have the bus speed inbetween 100 - 125 or not. As it could cause damage on older platforms.

I think clocking the bus speed to 104 is certainly not that stressful, it's only 4%

You can tweak the bus on x79, just remember adjusting bus and strap also adjusts memory speed. I run 103x1.25 on my 3820 giving ~129 and can run it upto 131.

iirc msi have had the x79 bus up around 171!!

TBH it is newer platforms, SB and IB that cannot be clocked upwards on the bus. Older platforms were more tolerant as long as you locked the PCIe bus.
