I work as a IT administrator part time for a company and i was called in to a meeting today to talk about switching the PCs to Macs :). No budget. I have quite a shopping list for apple and i was wondering if businesses get a discount as such?

I am a student at the moment (UNI) and i know i can get a discount but whats my limit to what i can buy? i was hoping i could use it on behalf of the company paying for it.

Shopping list:

3x Mac Pros (8core)
2x 24" cinema displays
21.5 Imac (base Model)
3x mac office
snow leopard server
Other mac software

overall its nearly 10 grand of stuff to buy.

Buying for business through the student discount scheme = bad idea.

I'd guess Apple work like Dell in that you get your own account manager etc etc?

That's not that much of a shopping list really - I'd be surprised if you manage to get anything knocked off at all.

Pretty certain that if you purchase something through the education store the T&Cs will forbid using it for business purposes.

I know home users who've spent more than that.
Try timing that by ten, then you might be able to enter price negotiations!

you might not get any discount but if you speak to someone you should be able to get some freebies thrown in - like extended applecare warranty for all your kit free of charge.

Explain that it's a decision to go with your growing business based on either apple or PC and you should be able to get something to sweeten the deal. Just don't expect it to be a free Mac Pro :)

dont get me wrong here i am not expecting huge discounts. Yes it would be nice to have the odd free thing thrown in. for instance i think its stupid that they charge you for a magic mouse with a mac pro where with a imac its included.

Thanks for the help i shall be ringing apple directly to discuss the order anyway, from previous times i have found the sales people to be great at apple.

I may be wrong here but I thought businesses got a similar discount to the HE discount.

We get all our stuff from West Quay and I'm fairly sure we get a bit knocked off and we're a tiny office. I seem to remember last time I was in there talking to their business account manager that if I wanted to get anything for myself I could buy it through the company and get a discount.

Maybe I've got my wires x'd.
