Hi,

We have Virgin cable at work using their Super Hub which is connected to the rest of the network via a Dell PowerConnect 5324 switch. We currently have no way of enforcing our internet usage policy, and now that we are taking on more employees we are looking to find a solution to this. What we want is to be able to monitor internet usage, as well as block certain websites if required.

As you'll know, the Super Hub is no good for this. Is there anything built into Windows Server 2012 that could turn it into a gateway with usage logs etc? Would we need any third-party software? Or is a hardware solution best?

Any advice appreciated!

As an aside dunno what policies, etc. you have in place but probably a good idea to get staff to sign off on a brief in regards to (appropriate) internet usage, etc.

A (proper) hardware solution is best but you can also run a software proxy on the server for it.

we are running Microsoft Threat Management Gateway (TMG) still land its still the best IMHO. Technically its gone EOL but you can still buy it as an appliance from companies like Celestix Networks.

No per user license fee's is what I like the most.
