Business Laptop Help

Anyone know if Acer business laptops are still decent? I had the very popular Timeline 8371 for a while and loved it but wasn't sure if build quality is still the same as I know a lot of folk avoid consumer Acer Laptops.

Avoid acer if you want rock solid build and reliability for business use. But they are good vfm if they work and don't break. :D

Hehe, thanks mate, I've been looking at something £500 - £600 really and it seems to me that the HP ProBook 4330s is probably the best bet for the cash, that or a Dell Vostro.

Quite tempted by the Elitebook 2560 but very pricey, the base model is around £750 and thats only got 2GB RAM!

Dell's build quality has gone downhill recently, their business support is second to none though! replaced a motherboard and processor in my server within 24hrs onsite.

It's a very good laptop, except for the extraneous business buttons and nipple. Luckilu work paid for mine (8GB with an SSD, it flies!:p)

Is that the Elitebook or the cheaper 4330s?

The big difference between the Elitebook and Probook is that the underside docking port is present on the Elitebook and not the probook series. Most business will require you to dock you laptop for H&S workstation reasons so you are not confined to hunching over a small laptop + you get the advantage of a bigger screen once docked.

To dock my Probook I either have to use a usb docking block or plug in all the peripherals separately.

This feature always creates a large price jump which is seen with the Dells (Vostro to Lattitude) and in the Thinkpad ranges too, even if on the face of it specs seem the same.

You could have a look at the 13" Dell E6320 or similar, bullet proof laptops. I have just bought a decent spec i5 machine for my missus from Dell Outlet £490 inc post and three years next day warranty. Supposedly refurbed but came brand new with plastics never been booted up. Bargain:D

Do they do Business Lappys on the Outlet? Can't find any!

Thanks mate, if I'm honest my current work Latitude E6400 has been really good and very rugged and has only been borked by the corporate rubbish thats on it!!

Some of those new ones look very good!

Does anyone use those nipple things? why do manufacturers insist on putting them on

I do, I far prefer the trackpoint to a trackpad, they are very efficient when you get used to them. If HP stop putting them on their Elitebooks then I will most likely stop buying them ...even though I have been using them for years. I'd buy a Thinkpad instead which also have trackpoints ...as do Dell Latitudes.
