Got a tight budget stipulated by the company £500 for a laptop. HAS to come with windows XP professional, HAS to have 1GB of RAM, and HAS to be dual-core (Intel Pentium Dual-Core/Core 2 Duo preferred), and HAS to be widescreen.

What can you recommend guys? Thanks :)

For businesses I would say either IBM or Dell, not sure what HP business laptops are like though. Dell have just introduced the budget friendly Vostro line up, if you phone up you should be able to specify exactly what you want, being a business customer after all. Not had many dealings with IBM apart from speccing them from the website/catalogue and ordering them however most business lines should let you choose your OS etc and generally come with no bloatware.

we buy a combination of dells and hp's.

if you require xp it may be tight (its now becoming more expensive for us to buy a laptop with xp than vista)

Personal preference dells have a brilliant warranty (on site warranty anywhere in the country)

Its not quite that cut and shut, we have to go through our preferred supplier, but the good news being that he can generally get any brand (except dell).

Doesn't have to necesarrily be a "for business" laptop, so long as its got XP PRO. Currently looking at the Fujitsu Amilo PRO V3505.
